THOR Movie Costume for Party - New Pics - Shins DONE! - June 23

Hey guys,

So I'll be taking a short break from Iron Man to concentrate on building a THOR movie style costume for a party in June.

I plan on purchasing a quilted silver or non silver and paint it fabric for the arms and will sew a set of arms that join across my chest.

The chest, shins and gauntlet armor will be done in 4mm craft foam... plasti dipped and painted.

Cape will be made with a king size red sheet sewn to look the part.

Cheap vader boots will be used under shin armor.

Hamer will most likely be made from foam or pepakura.

And I am not sure if I will do the helmet as I really don't want to walk around with that goofy thing on my head.

Also I will be a shorter shag haired version of THOR.. with brown hair.. but the beard will still be there.

Oh yeah and pants will be a pair of pleather pants.

There is a small chance I'll try my hand at 3d modeling of the THOR helmet. We'll see.

**It's funny that you just started this thread... I totally started reading and finally posting here (and over at the 405th forum) just to assist with Mikey's Halloween build. However, now that I'm following so many ppl building such kick butt stuff, it's hard to not consider what my NEXT project would be! :rolleyes

I guess just being around all you creative folks inspires me!

Not much of an update. Still planning and buying materials. However I have found a "close-enough" fabric for the arms. I will be sewing two arms and connecting them across my chest/back which will be hidden by the chest armor. I am going to use fabric paint to accent/accentuate the dark lines between the quilted shapes.

This is a shot of the fabric I bought. I'll post more pics when it comes in the mail.

Working on the arms this weekend. Borrowing a sewing machine. I should also have some progress on the cape. I need to buy materials this weekend for other areas of the costume. Thanks for the support Malmey!

Smallest update ever. Got the material for my cape. Please note I was only holding it in place for subtle reference. The shoulders will have rigid pieces keeping the squared shoulders look. And it will be shaped properly. Just wanted to share.

Hey guys. Sorry for teh lack of updates. Updates will be coming soon though.

I've gone ahead and sewn my arms and have attached them to an under shirt.. tank actually. Each arm goes from just above wrist up to my shoulder and emcompasses my upper shoulder under pit region.. just so it gives illusion it's a full upper armor thing.

I got some awesome silver fabric paint that I tested on a small piece of scrap.. it came out beautifully. A nice dark shimmery gray color as it was in the film.

I will be painting the arms tonight and then need to wait 24 hours before they an be heat pressed. I will post pics asap.

I am buying more foam for armor, I have cape materials already. Need to order boots still.

Not the greatest update.. but here are some pics of the arms thus far... I've run out of paint so I need to get more.. thus why they are splotchy in areas.. but overall the effect is nice.

It is just pre-quilted fabric... I got mine online.. but Joannes fabric sells it also. It is then covered in metallic silver fabric paint by company called Jacquard Lumiere or something like that.
