Thor: Love & Thunder

Is it a good movie? Probably not. But in a Marvel Phase 4 that has been significantly lackluster and underwhelming for me thus far, this one did something different in that it said "f' it, let's just be stupid and have a really good time."

Love & Thunder doesn't have a lot of depth or character growth. The editing and pacing were kind of all over the place and I wish it was longer to slow things down, let it breathe a bit, and to especially build more tension with the threat of Bale's Gorr (who is certifiably creepy), but I really enjoyed it as a high-flying rock n' roll-fueled silly space romp adventure. There were some excellent visual sequences in this one, namely the Shadow Realm that sucked all the color out of the frame (with some creative ways to drip a touch of color back in). It'll probably be no question that Ragnarok is a much stronger film overall.

Guardians Vol. 3 and Love & Thunder are just about the only upcoming Marvel projects I'm genuinely excited about. I'm hoping for more dramatic and emotional richness in Guardians 3, but for Thor I was hoping to just have a good time and I wasn't disappointed in that regard. Had a smile on my face the whole movie and left with a feeling of childlike joy (y) Bring on the sequel

Saw the movie myself tonight, couldn’t write a better review than this.

That second post credit sequence had me thinking.....

is the spoiler tag not showing for just me? or everyone?

I wonder if anyone has left Valhalla.

I took that mid credits scene as an acknowledgement of the honour of both Heimdall and Jane rather than a tease they will return. If they were to bring both characters back it would undermine their sacrifice and reduce the impact of their deaths.
Let the fallen live a life of rest in Valhalla.

I was surprised they didn't introduce Beta Ray Bill, after his head sculpt was on the side of the Grandmaster's stadium I thought it might have been a hint. In reality, with Thor and Mighty Thor it would have been a Thunder god overload and made sense not to have him in this film.

I agree, i'm just saying, her demeanor there was far from one of acceptance or realization...

Next film should definitely be Thor Corps.

I'd say she was likely overwhelmed, she had been on a huge journey even in just the events of this film, dealing with cancer, becoming a Thor, fighting her first bad guy and dying in the arms of her lover. To then find out that because of your sacrifice you ended up in a form of physical afterlife, for someone who has never exhibited any kind of religious faith would be quite overwhelming, which I think she conveyed in that scene. The fact that Heimdall, a familiar face, was there to greet her was clearly an important familiar connection and the logical character to have welcome her to Valhalla as he had personal stakes in wanting to thank her for rescuing his son. It might have been nice to see Odin or Friga, but Heimdall was the obvious choice.
I really liked the scene as it capped off the film and Jane's story nicely, especially as we already had the next piece of MCU connective tissue in the mid-credits scene with Zeus introducing Hercules.

Saw this last night. wish I had gone to a tuesday matinee so I didn't waist $16.00.

These Marvel movies are really going down hill. Forced stupid comedy, bland story,
all around CGI poopfest. I thought Doctor Strange 2 was bad. This is a close second.

Movie are becoming such a let down these days. :(

I'm I wrong to think this was the first time an actual afterlife was depicted in Marvel films? A heaven so to speak?

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Zeus? I guess I was expecting something in the movie to be serious (cancer I know but it was dealt with a lot with humor) and Zeus is where I thought that seriousness might be.
I guess crow’s performance hit me wierd because of that. For some reason wasn’t expecting something from him that felt like a mel brooks movie. All my family loved him so I may be way off….

The MCU afterlives are referred to as 'Realms', & we've seen them in Black Panther, Moon Knight, & in Infinity War, when Thanos did the snap, the orange realm he went to & talked with little Gamora is referred to as an afterlife.

Was I imagining things, or did this have a cameo at the end...

Everything Everywhere All at Once, Top Gun: Maverick, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent...great movies still exist!
I havent seen EEBAO yet after Jamie Lee Curtis made those dumb, unprofessional comments on social media, The Nic Cage Meta Movie didnt appeal and Top Gun Maverick is a nostalgia bait sequel. Opinion is subjective.

I would watch an entire movie with nothing but Thor's screaming goats than even two seconds of anything with that Tom Snooze in it. LOL And I would be happy!
Not to derail the Love and Thunder discussion, but the non CGI(mostly) aerial footage is worth it alone on Maverick. Even if you can’t stand TC.
