Thor & Ironman (arm construction costume pg.8)

Re: Thor & Ironman Helmet

That just looks fantastic :)

great work john!

Thanks, fellas!

I worked on the eyes a little tonight.

For my first attempt:
For those that know the Sharkmark: when I made the helmet, I kept the first inner eye section. So, it has that groove just inside the faceplate. I cut some "splash guard" to fit the slots and it looks great.

I then made a template (out of Sintra) of how the glowing portion will look.

Next step: Lighting the eyes.

Apperently, my camera doesn't know how to focus properly. I think I spent 20 minutes just to get this photo.

I back lit the helmet to help show more depth.

Re: Thor & Ironman Helmet

i got to get off here so i can stay married
Don't get in trouble! :eek

glad to see you working on the helmets again! :thumbsup

Thanks. I never really stopped, thou. Just slowed WAY down :lol. It's a hobby, so it comes in spurts. I really want to get those eyes running, though. And I should start working on the automated hinges later this month.
I'll try to get more updates soon.

Re: Thor & Ironman (Finished Ironman Eyes pg.3)

Nice Bucket!

Thanks. The second time around is always better:lol

I did some more work on the eyes...and I borrowed a camera for my office.

The outer shell is cut from a splash guard (face shield). The eye frame is made out of Sintra. And Get this...the eye frame is wrapped with a latex glove (used like a screen):eek.

I'll post more detailed pictures of how it all goes together, once I finish them.

wow!:eek... looks movie accurate to me... good job(y)thumbsup

just curious... does your design let the wearer see thru it or it just completely covers the eye socket with no (even little) visibility at all?

thanks for sharing and for the inspiration:)

cheers!

Looking good MightyJohn! I've got the same question as ProjectEarth ^

Thanks guys.

The light covers the upper and inner/nose edge of the eye socket. There is an "L" shaped slit that is under the eye and runs up the outer edge that you can see though.

Re: Thor & Ironman (working on Ironman Eyes pg.3)

Looks great! :):thumbsup

I thought about a clear plastic covering on the very outside of the area (like you have), but I thought it might pick up too much of the light glare... Do you have much trouble with that in your configuration?

...and thanks, again, for all the assistance with Mikey's armor. You're advice, examples and informative posts really, really helped me out! :thumbsup

I'm proud to know, my tiny tips became part of that awesome build of yours! Great Work!

As for the reflection:
The current state of the eyes won't allow me to wear the helmet. My main concern was getting the shape and light cover to work. So, I'm using a flashlight to light the eyes.
But from what I can tell...In the dark I can't see out of it. But, I can see in low light ( Lower then I expected). Once I get the lights installed I will know better and maybe get some pictures, too.

The dust on the outer lens probably doesn't help either. But, thats what happens during the construction phase:lol.

awsome .... i am still figuring out how to work with the iron man eyes... thanks

Cool.

Still a work in progress, but here's what I got so far...

As I said before, I used Sintra to make the frame. I think I will need something stronger for the final product. Plus, I am going to want to recreate them for other helmets :thumbsup. so I think I'm going to mold it this weekend. Once I get a stronger version, I'll mess around with light placement.

Ideas are welcome.

It's hard to see in the photo, but the lower and outside edges of the eye slots come to a knifes edge. This is to help the light reach the outer edges of the frame (no dark border around the eye).

I placed a binding post between the eyes

The frame is torqued against the inner and upper eye walls

Re: Thor & Ironman (working on Ironman Eyes pg.3)

I molded the eye frame.

Working on the right eye:
I cut a groove so I can stretch some latex glove material around the eye socket and use a rubber band to hold it in place.

I used (2) 4-pin LED's for one eye. I might change to (3) due to slight light variations. I mounted them on a piece of Sintra that is cut to fit the back side of the eye frame.

It works and fits good. Looking though the slots, there is a halo effect from the outer shell, but I think it should be o.k. I'm going to have to re-direct the wiring to the outside so the wires will clear the dome when the faceplate opens.

Now to work on the left eye.
