Thor 2: Lady Sif Build - WIP

Will watch this closely. My wife is debating do this costume.

I'm considering going down the worbla route. It looks like a smooth enough surface to me.

I am also preparing to attempt this costume for the 2014 Con circuit.
I will be using Worbla. I have had success with getting the texture that I want by layering Gesso, multiple layers ~ 20, and then sanding. You can also use a wood glue as a spackle to fill in any dents or indentations before the gesso and sanding. I have not tried it yet, but I hear that automotive paint can give you the shine that you want. But I don't know where to find it besides a body shop? Also using a 3D paint on top of the Worbla for the embossing.
As for the under dress, I think I am going to use a faux leather for the maroon portion and a fishnet material spray painted silver for the chainmail portion AT FIRST. Then when I get it to the point that I want to make the investment, I will switch out the faux leather with real leather, using the faux for my pattern. And then I will address the chain mail portion. That is a lot of small rings! Maybe I can just do the trim that is visible under the skirt and the patch on the chest in the small rings.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's progress photos! Please post! And I will do the same!
We all learn from each other!

I really hope you get to this outfit soon, she is a great character and someone has to do her justice! My two cents is this: I did a Hawkman helmet recently and used Rustoleum Metallic Specialty spray. Also, Black Dog is doing some Batwoman armour, and using Friendly Plastic(pellets) for it, and it is working rather well. Hope these help!

Oh I feel silly now for my previous posts of "I MUST HAVE THIS HIGH SHEEN!" now that closeup photos of Jaimie Alexander's costume have surfaced. Oh silly me, indeed. The link below has a bunch of really good closeups, so one can see the fabric as well as armor material. Time to go brainstorm new materials!

A material which I have used to make armour previously and that is very easy to work with (and readily available at low cost) is Sintra board. You can get it at fed Ex Kinkos, or at an art supply store. It's made of PVC, and comes in flat sheets of various sizes and thicknesses, and can easily be cut with an x-acto knife or scissors, moulded with heat and painted.

When I've made my armour, I first painted it all flat black, and then used silver rub-n-buff to get the metallic effect. the more you rub it the shinier it gets... so you can achieve your own custom level of shiny ::thumbsupP

here's a look at my Lady Predator armour, which is made entirely of Sintra:

I was just thinking that it was surprising how little talk of Rub and Buff there has been in here. It really is great at getting things to look like metal.

Hi, seems I found this thread a bit late. I do my suits in fiberglass but I'm doing anew halo spartan set in cold cast alualuminum. All you do is mix powdered aluminium in your resin. You have to stir it a lot so the particals don't settle. Use it as a gel coat the layer your fiberglass over it. After you demold it buff it with mineral oil on a rag then use some fine steelwool to bring out the metal shine. Once I finish my silver centurian il post some pictures. The finish will be identical to your image of ironman you put up. Good luck and hope that helps. Smooth on has all you need for the project plus some great tutorials.
