Things you're tired of seeing in movies

Incompetent security guards:

Many security guards are former military, trained in automatic weapons and explosives or retired police or retired military police, but the young cops of the film are always smarter and more capable.

My problem with guards in movies is that people can take out guards at will and sneak around. Now I may be wrong, but I would guess guards, especially military, would be checking in with someone fairly regularly for that exact reason.

My only counter to that is that a lot of times, unless its a specific contractor gig or something that requires/prefers SOF style experience, a lot of those ex mil security guards are checked out and want to collect an extra paycheck doing little work, OR they have gotten complacent where the younger guards are fresh and yes energetic and eager(if in the wrong line of work ;) ).

From that POV I can see it happening. Now, some spy/sabatuer stuff looking to intercept a DOE convoy or some other thing like a high level installation, good luck and I'm right there with you on it.

Speaking of population explosions in SF, the purpose of the Robinsons' trip in Lost In Space was to check out Alpha Centauri as a potential colonization locale due to overpopulation. They never mentioned that Earth problem again.

Overpopulation

In a world where there is crisis level negative population growth, every futurism film still insists that the population will be unsustainably large in the future.

The future relies on population.

No people; no future.
And the funny thing now is that the same people who warned us about overpopulation are decrying those not having kids (either by choice or not, many people don't know there's a huge infertility problem going on, of which my wife was a victim, and we never could have kids).
"Children of men" is the only movie I can think of that addresses the possibility of this.

Nerfing characters. I was watching the Underworld series again and in the second movie Selene is given Corvinus (father of the first Vampire and Lycan) blood to make her stronger than either Marcus (first Vampire) and William (first Lycan). She throws the former around without much problem. However in Blood Wars this new hybrid guy, and a younger Vampire, both beat her in a fight. It's like they couldn't write a story so they had to nerf her abilities to make something work. They did the same thing with Peter on Heroes.

They do the same thing in comics all the time. Superman has to struggle to beat the bad guy, he digs deep and finds inner strength and comes out victorious. Next, they have to come up with an even stronger villain. Lather, rinse, repeat until it gets ridiculous and Superman can do anything, then they reset everything back to the start and do it all over again and again and again.

Follow the money.

The corporate state wants cheap labor and future customers. That's the core reason why there is crying about overpopulation in the political sphere.

It's not corporations I hear making these complaints/observations about "this younger generation" not having kids.
There's always a "______ is going to be the end of the world" crowd, it seems. Until not long ago, it was overpopulation, now it's underpopulation.
Same thing with the climate. When I was a kid in the 70s, it was all about how we were heading to an ice age in my lifetime. Now it's all about the opposite, and in some cases from the same people and organizations.
And societally you aren't to question any of it. It was the same way back in the ice age threat days. I'm NOT saying any of the climate folks are wrong, but they sure were wrong in the 70s. The earth has had some odd things come and go over a generation or two throughout history and in some of those cases, historians are still trying to figure out what'd happened.

The ruling class/corporate state doesn't say it themselves. They just happen to fund media figures who say it for other reasons (like thinly-veiled racism).

God, Allah, Climate change, overpopulation, underpopulation, nuclear WW3, aliens, Elon Musk . . . everybody has different reasons for why the world is gonna end soon. But everybody agrees that it will.

As Conan O'Brien warned us: it will all happen in the year 2000!

Hanging off any cliff/building/anything perilous then easily pulling themselves up, especially if they are already injured or tired, even worse if they are hanging one handed.
At my gym even beefy guys struggle with just a single pull up.

While I fully agree with your point, your first picture does not support your argument.
Deckard was not going to hang on for long, let alone pull himself up. It was only through Roy (a much stronger replicant) catching him, that he was saved.

We sure like to yell "The sky is falling":lol::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Or Al Gore "No ice in the Artic by the year 2000!":lol::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Al Gore was grifting off climate change but the issue is real. Getting a ship through the Arctic ocean had never been done until WW2. Today it's a usable passage in the warmer months. The shipping industry plans on using the route all year around in the future.
