TheNickFox Presents: Raimi Spider-Man Pattern - Now Even More Accurater!!! (Page 5)

Re: The Nick Fox Presents: Spider-Man Pattern Development w/ NEW Pics! (Page 4)

Okay, I didn't want to say anything until I had the piece in hand, but I now have a way to make my pattern even more accurate.

I just acquired a production-made print from Spider-Man 2, and already I've been pouring over it, discovering small details previous suit-makers have missed. Yes, these pieces were made as part of the production of the film, but never sewn together into a final suit.

Here's a picture to whet your whistles:

In the short term, I will be changing a few minor dimensions on my pattern to better match the production made pieces. But more importantly I will be using these to make my colors even more accurate.

In the long term, this will help me create what I've been calling my "Supreme Suit" which will be made exactly like this piece here. Each color will be printed onto colored lycra, to match the movies as closely as possible.

Just excited and had to share!

Seriously, please stop spamming EVERY SINGLE Spider-Man thread with that exact thing...my thread isn't even about the suit you're looking for. It doesn't even make sense.

Please look in the Junkyard and contact Sonjou. He's your man...you even posted in one of his threads asking this question, but if you had read the entire thread, you'd see that he offers the pattern for sale...in the Junkyard.

Spamming of this nature is extremely disruptive and bothersome.

Please have a look around and remember to read the forum rules.

Don't mention it. If you have any questions, feel free to post them up and I or one of the other Spidey guys around here should be able to help you out.

Part of the reason I shared this was to help every put Spidey within their reach, and since I've put this up we've seen a HUGE number of people taking the time to make their own digital Spidey patterns. So I am always happy to see more and more people taking an interest in this and being helped by it.

Good luck!

Nick, just curious, have you made any progress on your supreme suit? It's really incredible, and I've come back to this thread to admire it often.

Also. I'm also wondering about how much the color on your print "whites out" when stretching. After looking at HD's post quoted below I'm having some thoughts about my two fabric on demand suits, which have noticeable color loss when stretched. I have a thinner spider suit made from 2-way stretch lycra that has the color saturated through to the back side, yet the thicker (and better fitting) 4-way stretch lycra on my FOD prints is still white on the interior. Just wanting to check if this is normal.

Cheers,

One other thing I would add, if you dont mind. When you send it to the printer...do two things:

1) Send it in TIFF not jpg. TIFF is a large format but keeps ALL the color information

2) Make sure that you set the saturation in Photoshop to "absolute" and that you set it to 100%. This is what tells the printer how "deep" to saturate the fabric when you print.

Hey Nick, I was looking at the picture of the production print you posted, and I noticed it doesn't have the usual open space on the chest for sewing. Why is this?

Also, are you ever going to make this thing?

Sadly, life has been a distraction so I haven't been able to tackle the Supreme Suit...but it's still on my list of projects. Hopefully I'll be able to get to it sometime next year. (This year is already booked solid :lol)

Also, the "whiting out" tends more to be a problem with photographs than with the suit in person. (As I'm sure your aware of) But generally you should not see your colors bleeding through to the other side of the fabric. So a colored front and a white back is totally normal.

Here's a picture that shows off, fairly well, how my suits' colors appear in person:

post-current-picture-yourself-screen-shot-2013-03-05-7.15.43-pm.png-147730d1362528983

It's just a test print I had lying around to mess with, so don't mind the crappy seams or the neckline basically being hacked off. It;s worth noting though that suit is actually WAY too small for me which actually should make the white out effect even worse...it's also why I'm holding that pose, the suit was so small on me, I couldn't zip it up.

And as good as those colors look in that one picture, many photos STILL make the print look pinkish. It's just the nature of printing onto something white. But it's totally worth it to have a Spidey suit. ;) I'm sure you'd agree.

What I believe HD was referencing is a quirk/feature of CMYK printing where black isn't always black. So unless your saturation is absolute, your blacks might turn more grey.

Hey Nick, I was looking at the picture of the production print you posted, and I noticed it doesn't have the usual open space on the chest for sewing. Why is this?

It does have the neck dart (AKA the "open space") it's just hard to see given the lightness of the lines and the angle the image was taken at.

And someday I'll come back to the Supreme Suit...Like I said above, hopefully that someday is next year.

Thanks for the in-depth response! Haha, great example. Those colors really are wonderful. Thanks again for calming my fears, and you're right that the badassery of having a suit more than makes up for the fact that certain pictures register the wrong hue. Cheers.

Last night, I couldn't sleep and suddenly had an idea for a way to potentially make the colors richer and eliminate some of the white out effect, without having to find a printer willing to work on colored fabric:

Overdying.

What if I was just to put the finished pieces into a dye bath to saturate the fibers so that when it's stretched you see colored fibers instead of white ones?

I'm going to grab some Rit dye in the next week or so and try it out on some of my test pieces. Just like with colored fabrics, however, the main limitation would be that you couldn't print webs on and have to print the red and blue sections completely separately.

Thoughts?
