TheNickFox Presents: Raimi Spider-Man Pattern - Now Even More Accurater!!! (Page 5)

Re: TheNickFox Presents: Raimi Spider-Man Pattern - Now Even More Accurater!!! (Page

I like it! Frankly, I can't see why it WOULDN'T work, provided you took on the hassle of dealing with the separated sections regarding color demarcation, but that's a given.
I did something similar on a small scale with the webs on my Ultimate SM suit, where I went over them from the front and the back with archival ink marker pens so that the fibers all the way through are dyed black. Now, instead of the webs becoming lighter in areas of stretch, they stay black in every position.

Did you ever try the multi layer silkscreen printing idea you had a while ago? I like where your going with this rit dye idea though.

Re: TheNickFox Presents: Raimi Spider-Man Pattern - Now Even More Accurater!!! (Page

That's a great idea, I'm really interested to see what kind of results you get.

Im in love with that suit Nick! That detail is absolutly amazing!

Hey Nick, i was just wondering what you did to make the color shade with the muscle underlayer so well. What did you do in photoshop to do that? I have a muscle pattern and a hex pattern put on, i am designing a flash costume, but could use some assistance. Any info would be super awesome!

Re: TheNickFox Presents: Raimi Spider-Man Pattern - Now Even More Accurater!!! (Page

Hi Nick ! By any chance is there an extra step you left out for the brick pattern ? When I rasterize and delete the layers it doesn't leave the transparent spaces, it simply deletes the shapes :/.

Don't mention it. No one could ever learn if we didn't share our knowledge. A lot of great, helpful people have guided me over the years and shared their knowledge when I needed it, so it just seems natural to pass on what I know/learned.

Anyhoo, I want to thank Stagelife IMMENSELY for helping me out on the web front. The webs are gorgeous and I couldn't resist quickly throwing them onto my pattern to see how it all looks. All I can say is I've got a HUGE smile on my face right now...take a look:

I'm still taking a small break from patterning, but hopefully by this weekend I'll have some more time to roughly, if not completely, finish the pattern.

Hello Nick!

I'm relatively new to the forum, but I have been working on a Spider-Girl (May Parker) dye sub pattern using the female muscle base I bought from Sonjou's site.

I've gotten up to the point where I'm ready to start outlining the webbing pattern, however I was wondering if you had any tips / tricks for doing this in Photoshop / Illustrator?

Thanks!
- Ariana

Spiderman Dye Sub Pattern Tutorial - YouTube
A tutorial I made on youtube. I used the sample image you gave permission to trace with. I gave you credit and I hope you don't mind I made this video.

I don't mind at all! That's fantastic. I wish this level of education was available when I first started. I put out my little tutorial because I was tired of pattern-making being some secret art that no one talked about, so the more people we have figuring things out and sharing their techniques the better! That way as many people as possible can become the hero of their dreams.

Awesome video! I hope you continue to share discoveries you make.

...Oh, as as for the muscle base, it is THE toughest part. I have yet to really find a "quick" method of making a new muscle base. What I would say is, follow my directions here, and start with a 50% grey layer, they select as many of your highlighted areas as possible at once (Actually slightly beyond your highlights where it starts to transition into lowlights) with a lasso or polygon lasso with a nice soft feather on it, then use levels or brightness/contrast or whatever you're most comfortable with to brighten those areas a little bit. Once you do that, modify your selection by contracting it so the selections are now ENTIRELY within your highlights, then brighten the selection even further, creating a smooth transition. THEN, specifically select places that need a further highlight or lowlight added and adjust them accordingly.

I hope that makes sense. It's a slow process, but I'm sure once you experiment a bit, you'll get the hang of it.

Keep up the awesome work!

Sorry my voice sounded like crap. I learn best with video tutorials so making a tutorial vid like that was the easiest way for me to explain the process.I'm really happy that your are glad I made the tutorial. Once I fully master doing that method for making the muscle base, that's when I will make another tutorial. That way I can make a good example.

Also if you can share the video so more people can know about it I would appreciate it.

This is great New Blood! You just taught me a few nifty shortcuts for the pen tool I didn't know about before. I will definitely be using this method when I go to outline my webs. Thanks for making the video :thumbsup

Anytime. Share this video as much as you want and encourage others to share it too if it's no trouble.

Ok guys I'm new here and this is my first post but I was wondering how many yards does it take to print one of these on Lycra??? I would be printing the 5'7" - 6'1" suit. Please let me know!

Thanks,
BDS

Re: TheNickFox Presents: Raimi Spider-Man Pattern - Now Even More Accurater!!! (Page

I suggest to use a preview image, or a full size pattern if you have one and size it accordingly in Photoshop or in an image software than you can see the physical measurements and figure it out from there, but if you can't I can quickly do that if requested.

Re: TheNickFox Presents: Raimi Spider-Man Pattern - Now Even More Accurater!!! (Page

Just curious and I don't think I've seen it brought up here before, but is there a 3d model that most of these templates get sourced from?

I ask because I'm accustomed to texturing 3D models. I suppose I could model a human figure and simply unwrap it and texture that way, but if there is already a model out there, that could save a lot of time and (for me at least) save a lot of headaches as far as matching up features across seams.

Hey nick i was wondering how i could get in touch with the man who did your webs. my brother wants a raimi suit and i need the webs but i cant do them

Re: TheNickFox Presents: Raimi Spider-Man Pattern - Now Even More Accurater!!! (Page

My webs have been completely rebuilt since then and that guy, last I heard, was banned.

The secret is all in the pen tool in Photoshop and a LOT of patience. Start with a small area, like the side of the head, and practice different techniques and effects. Most people use the bevel and emboss tool or stroke to creative the illusion of depth, I use a slightly offset under-layer to do the same thing. You just have to find the method that works for you.

Good luck.

Sadly, no. That's how Sony Imageworks originally created these files, but anyone who makes a pattern tends to work off of a flat, pre-arranged pattern based on the pattern used on Spider-Man 2.

Around 2006 there was a guy attempting to do just what you're suggesting and it created some really interesting results, but he never took it all the way.

Try it out yourself and see what you come up with. I love that even after all these years we're still finding new ways to experiment with these patterns.

I'm not sure I understand. Do you have a picture to demonstrate what you're talking about?
