The Winter Soldier - Costume Research Thread

So I've officially started making this for myself (genderswapped I guess though I'm not planning on altering the design any--it was kind of a tossup between making it for myself and making it for my husband and then I found a pair of women's tactical pants in exactly my size at goodwill for only $6 and I took that as a sign XD) and I had a question, is his one sleeve attached to the vest or is it a separate piece? The harness makes it a bit hard to tell. I'm leaning towards separate but I wanted to see what other people thought.

Hi,
GERBER YARI II TANTO
Duplicate completion of a grip portion.
Since it is dangerous, the portion of an edge is not made.
The rest is attached to the reproduced sheath and is completion.

would you be willing to share the steps of your cast making process? especially since it seems you were able to do it without damaging the original. i'd like to cast my gerbers as well.

Any good pictures of where he keeps the Gerber Mark II? Or what the holster looks like? There's just so many weapons to keep track of! (0)_(o)

Also for anyone 3D printing, grabcad has the Mark II available for download here: https://grabcad.com/library/mark-ii-combat-knife-1
There is also a rendering of the Yari Tanto, here: https://grabcad.com/library/gerber-yari-ii-tanto but no 3d model to download. It would be useful if you were trying to model it on your own though! There is a different Tanto version with a downloadable 3d file here: https://grabcad.com/library/gerber-warrant-tanto-black-1 you could build on to make more accurate.

I want to attempt to model the holsters (and maybe the Tanto if my skills are up to par), so if I accomplish that I'll upload the files.
On another note, I'm trying to get some 3d modeling practice so if are there any requests from this costume that you want a 3d file for, let me know and I'll see if I can make it happen.

Thanks for posting these getting a friend to print them for me

Hi!,

Pexafo - A sheath is also produced at the same process.

I easily explain a process. If an English sentence is funny, I am sorry.

A pedestal is first made from clay.

Silicone rubber is put in there and the model of one side is made.
IMG_2582.jpgIMG_2583.jpg

With a completed silicon type as a pedestal, I make an other silicon type.

Using two silicon type, I make a copy with the cast.

You are welcome! I did a test print of the MK II the other day and the build plate of the 3d printer wasn't big enough to print it full size. I'm gonna edit the file to make it 2 parts that snap together that way it can be printed easily. I also am gonna try to make some edits to the blade to make it more accurate and dull out the point a tiny bit because it was SHARP! Not sure they would let me into the con with that thing even if it is plastic!

I was wondering if you would be able to put the grooves in the handle of the yari knife i would try but i dont know how to

This isn't even my final form

In my mad dash to save for my Australia trip, I am forced to sell my other Winter Soldier jacket, sadly. Thinking of listing it here, but dunno if it's worth a premium membership.

EDGE, those cast knives look amazing

Got my Winter Soldier done (sort of 8P) I ended up doing most of it in two days due to lack of funds beforehand and a convention that weekend (May 16-18). I still need to fix up the jacket and I want to redo portions of the upper arm cause I don't know how out of it I was when I made some of the upper arm pieces but they do NOT fit together. Like at all. I also want to make the knives still, but again, we kind of ran out of time. I'll get better photos eventually XD

Arm was made from Worbla with a silver sleeve. I altered the jacket from a pleather jacket I already had and I altered the glove from one I had as well. The mask is cloth with Worbla for the "plastic" pieces.

EDGE those knifes are awesome 8O

Does anybody have a guide for how to make the vest? My husband & I are planning on doing a genderbent WS & Black Widow (with me as WS & husband as a male BW) and I've found walkthroughs/tutorials for just about everything OTHER than what I need the most: the vest. I don't want to go with the jacket because I want to make the arm so I want that bad boy visible.

So any advice? I can handle custom building the vest. I just would feel better using some sort of a guide since this is such an integral part of the WS costume. Plus, I'm hoping to have this done by DragonCon so I don't have a lot of time for trial & error/potentially scrapping it once I start & starting all over.

Hey Desi
I have been inquiring about this for a few weeks now. I am scouting a few costume designers to come up with a screen accurate pattern to fabricate a leather replica.
Can send it to you when the pattern is completed.

That would be amazing. Thank you so much!! I've been wracking my brain trying to get a decent pattern down but I'm horrible at drafting patterns from scratch lately.

I have also been wondering this!! Cause I know it's a vest but what the deal with the shapes on the right sleeve and the thing wrapped around the bicep?

if anyone is still interested, here are pictures of GCFX2013's urethane rubber arm. i decided to buy instead of create because i am nowhere near craft-savvy enough to build it. the arm itself is thick but the fingers are made out of significantly cheaper stuff. it also comes with a sticker of the red star rather than painted on, but i guess i prefer that since you never know what he will have painted there in future movies. i have done no customizing yet, these photos are right out the box. i will have to cut alot from the underarm/armpit area just to be able to lower my arm comfortably, ill also have to cut around the wrist as my actual arm is not quite long enough. i think my only real complaint is that not enough of the shoulder was cast/molded. but otherwise i am really, really happy with this purchase.

Also, thank you so so much, Freakzter, for this customer review of Gotham's arm - sounds like you'd definitely rec it, then! :D I'd been leaning more and more towards it as, seemingly, really the only option for me as well, since I know crafting this arm for mine own self is a thing I really can't do, at present - just not a thing I think I'd feel at all confident in doing, not when I see the masterful job of it others have done, phew! :) Same time, though, I was very much curious and, I suspect, to some extent waiting on purchasing it, myself, until I was hopefully able to hear back from someone on it....get an even better idea of what it's actually like, out of the box and all that. Of course it needing work/even a small degree of customization like that will be equally somewhat of a new thing for me, but then, compared to the idea of making the whole entire arm itself!....heh, well, I think I know which challenge I find rather less terrifying. ;)
