Okay, so I figured I would do something useful, and post up a review of one of the WS masks available online. (Not sure if they're all the same, but the one I bought was on eBay:
Captain America 2 Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes Mask Cosplay Prop | eBay) 60 bucks was one of the cheapest prices I saw, add in free shipping (and it arriving less than a week after I ordered it) and it's not bad.
Now, onto the actual item itself!
The mask is a solid piece of rubber, with the 'mesh' on the sides being solid as well. The only 'vents' are a few around the nose and mouth, and a couple of holes near the ears.
The part of the mesh that differs in shade was done by just painting the rubber (or dying it, I can't really tell) and (if you can see, not sure how well the crappy iPhone camera picked it up) there are definitely some spots that were missed.
Overall, the mask is... okay. The straps that are currently sewn on it are a. Too short, b. The backpack keeper that was sewn onto one side was put on backwards, making it impossible to use properly unless I take it off and reverse it, and c. Positioned poorly on the top. Put on it sits around where your cerebellum is, which means that the more you tighten it, the more it will slip down towards your neck and cause the mask to not sit on your face properly. I'm not sure if this is just from the angle of the strap or the lack of length.
Also, I'm not sure if this is just a biproduct of the forming process (or the material itself) but the mask... stinks. Not in a nasty, methane-y sort of way, but it has a very sweet odor to it that's a bit overwhelming when you put it on. (Oh, and since it's solid rubber, you sweat like crazy as soon as it goes on.)
Overall, if molding the mask was too far out of someone's depth, I'd recommend this. It's not terribly expensive, and looks pretty good. With some modifications it could be a great mask, but I don't know how receptive rubber is to other materials.
Oh, and lastly...
Who the hell is Bucky!?
