The Winter Soldier - Costume Research Thread

I just saw this movie this weekend, and really loved the costume, so I've decided to make it for halloween-ish. This is the first time I've ever done anything like this but I think it's going to be lots of fun. As for the arm, I'm thinking of making a foam base, still need to decide what type of foam and how to make it, and then coat it with some sort of sliver material, like Edge's. I was browsing around and I came across this: Free Shipping! 8" x 60" Car Auto Vehicle Silver Mirror Chrome Foil Gloss Wrap Vinyl Film Sheet Silver Chrome Wrapping Vinyl Film-in Stickers from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com, which I was thinking might work. I'm going to order some and do some experimenting, so we'll see.

i went around a couple knife forums and was finally able to get a positive identification on the twin knives strapped to the back of his waist:
GERBER YARI II TANTO

perhaps we can update the original post?

Has anyone had any luck either sourcing or making the belt buckle?

I can make the belt buckle! Cast plastic, holds together with a roll pin. Fits 1.5in diameter belt- mine is 2" but gets smaller where it attaches, like the movie.

Pictured here with my old comic-book-style jacket-

Not the best picture. I can also cast copies of the pouches.

My raw pulls-

(these were my first pull, hence why they're a little dirty looking. The clean ones on top are from my second pull, which were much nicer)

Hey PreacherMan - that all looks absolutely brilliant! So, Shushuwafflez Creative Studio - I looked 'em up on FB, was quite pleasantly surprised to see that it looks like they're located here in Canada....could definitely simple things up for me, even somewhat! What's the vest/jacket like....make, material, quality-wise and that....how's it fit, what was cost like, and such? If, of course, 'tis alright for me to ask. :) I definitely did ***** up my ears in interest at this one, for sure!....

Also, very nice pouches too, PreacherMan! Will def be keeping an eye on these for mine. :) Hey, anything to simple it all up, even by fraction, again! Especially when other aspects are far more maddening. I mean, brain-breaking. I mean, challenging. ;)

Su (the owner of SCS) is actually a friend of mine, she lives a province over! It's an amazing jacket- the stitching and build quality is absolutely fantastic. She took my measurements and made it fit perfectly- Totally worth it.
I could definitely cast more if there was a want for them! Pity to have the mold and never use it again. Same with the holster and other bits, I have the designs and templates made.

Ha, that's fantastic! And an entirely unepxected, most fortuitous thing, to find someone for it who's a fellow Canuck - tentatively seems to me like that really *could* end up simplifying this whole process even a small smidgen somewhat, and again, as stated, I am *totally* all for that. ;) :D I did msg her, as well....seemed like the thing to do, heh. :) Definitely am ever more curious now you metnion it, too, re: the stuff and various bitses, the holster and such, you've cast....safe to say, thus far, that you've more than piqued my own interest. :D Also, finally, an instance where being currently located in Canada does not necessarily end up zinging the heck out of me shipping-wise, for a cosplay thing! Phew! :)

Indeed! Holster is made from thermoplastic and Worbla, the knives and sheaths are cast 2-part plastic and Worbla. :)
The guns are fabbed together from random bits.

These sheaths aren't done, just sort of getting the shape before detailing. I didn't buy a Yari 2, made a two part mould off of a knife my friend made- then trimmed the blade size down to more closely resemble the Yari.

PreacherMan - "Heat press" seems to say "vacuum forming" in foreign countries. You have a lot if search in Youtube.

Freakzter - Thank you!

Any good pictures of where he keeps the Gerber Mark II? Or what the holster looks like? There's just so many weapons to keep track of! (0)_(o)

Also for anyone 3D printing, grabcad has the Mark II available for download here: https://grabcad.com/library/mark-ii-combat-knife-1
There is also a rendering of the Yari Tanto, here: https://grabcad.com/library/gerber-yari-ii-tanto but no 3d model to download. It would be useful if you were trying to model it on your own though! There is a different Tanto version with a downloadable 3d file here: https://grabcad.com/library/gerber-warrant-tanto-black-1 you could build on to make more accurate.

I want to attempt to model the holsters (and maybe the Tanto if my skills are up to par), so if I accomplish that I'll upload the files.
On another note, I'm trying to get some 3d modeling practice so if are there any requests from this costume that you want a 3d file for, let me know and I'll see if I can make it happen.

Hi,
GERBER YARI II TANTO
Duplicate completion of a grip portion.
Since it is dangerous, the portion of an edge is not made.
The rest is attached to the reproduced sheath and is completion.
