The Winter Soldier - Costume Research Thread

Nice to meet you!
I think backup knife that's it.

I know somebody doing a Peter Quill build on here bought the Star-Lord jacket they had and said it was of pretty good quality and was clearly leather. I am really tempted to pick that up now that they have posted real photos.

Nice to see that they've put up actual pictures. I'm not all that impressed though, for the price. For one thing I 'm pretty sure that coat isn't actually leather in the film. The detailing is but not the main fabric. It looks more like the fabric of one of my hiking coats. Some high-tech water resistant stuff. Also, the back, the collar, and detailing on the forearms on their version aren't right.

If you're not a perfectionist like me though, it's definitely close. I think I'm going to try to make my own though. I'm trying to see if I can find a softshell outdoor jacket with breast pockets, then modify it from there.

Yeah, something like that is also what I was thinking.

You mean for the inner elbow? Yeah, I think there's actually supposed to be a gap there of maybe 1/2 to 3/4th of an inch when the arm is extended. I saw some photos of the final concept drawings of the arm from the art book where I could see the inner elbow better. I can't link to them right now unfortunately (on my phone atm).

Edit: managed to find a link to the image: http://31.media.tumblr.com/e35c5142a2cda5c10e3ae0db54ab2970/tumblr_n4o27w6KzG1req852o2_1280.jpg
I started forming the Worbla for my arm yesterday. I'll upload pics once I get a good start on it and figure out the elbow area. I'm actually going off of kittybarnes' tutorial but with some of my own changes X3 Thanks for the photo though it helps knowing there should be a gap there anyway XD

Does anyone happen to know the size of the intratec tec -38 derringer? I'm making a replica and I want the size to be accurate.

I got my copy of the artbook earlier this week and will try to get the Bucky pages scanned tomorrow. Most of the concept art is really dark and hard to see the details on, but Bucky's isn't as bad as Steve's or Natasha's, so hopefully it will be of some use!

It's good for the details but looking at it is messing me up personally cause this is his right arm and not the left XD

EDIT: I just saved the image and flipped it YAY

I'm pretty sure the image was flipped post scan to "prevent copyright infringement" you see videos on youtube do it all the time

Hey there!
Thought I would chime in and say how great this thread is, I have been obsessed with the concept of making a WS costume and this has been really helpful :) I've recently finished making the arm and thought I would show it to you all :)

I'm small and female so the arm isn't as beefy and muscly as most! If anyone is interested in the process will make a tutorial :)

That's awesome! I'm small and female too and looking to start this as my first scratch-build cosplay so I'd love to see the process you used!

I just finished making a mould of the buckles and pouches- after drilling a hole for a retainer pin, they actually work quite well together! Saga Leatherworks (https://www.facebook.com/SagaLeatherworks) helped make the belt and harness- the pouches are tapped and screwed directly into the belt. The lower slot fits a 1" strap that feeds down to the dropleg. May sell these, pity to have a silicone mould and do nothing with it past one cast.

Hi everyone! This thread is so darn amazing!

I've just started with my TWS costume, and need to have it finished by the end of July (for a con), so I'll be busting my ass crafting the different pieces. The first piece I'll be making is his one-sleeved leather jacket/vest. I'm making slight modifications to make it easier to make and more practical for wear. Like adding hidden pockets, and zippers to attach the sleeves (so I can wear it as a regular jacket after the con = budget friendly!) and some "breathing" vents of fabric (he has something like that in the movie, too!) so I don't melt in all that leather. I'm also putting in compartments for removable shoulder pads in the sleeve (s), cause I'm not quite as broad-shouldered and will have to fake it (and having a hella buff metal arm and a noodle for my right arm would just look weird). :p

So far I've stiched together a messy mock-up, but I'm working on the pattern and guidelines for putting it all together. If it turns out looking good I'll post some pictures of my sketches!

Until then keep up the awesome work everyone! We'll fill the globe with rad, brainwashed soldiers!
