The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

It may not be their actual prototype. It looks like it might be an MR P2 with a freshly slapped-on, crispied Wand P1, if you can believe that. Yeah. Read this, then decide
Publicity stunt for future, ‘yet to be released’ phaser?

Interesting thread….with nicer pic angles.

You stated……”Publicity stunt for future, “yet to be released’ phaser”

Wand’s tricorder….was a publicity stunt for future that lasted 5 years

From Comic-Con…..Factory Entertainment is waiting in the wings……they are coming out with a TOS Phaser with light and sound……when is TBD.

I suspect if it sells, a communicator may follow thereafter and who knows maybe even a tricorder.

The placard says “Prototype Not Final, Subject To Revisions”

Don’t know much about Factory Entertainment…..there stuff is priced High….perhaps higher quality

Ummm ... that looks like a MR P2 from here.
I don't rate F.E , overpriced and I've often had to return or replace items from them due to faults.

I found this from March, it looks like they’re working to the plan. It seems like the demand question is clear.

Hi Chris:

Is there a cutoff number of the amount of the Tricorders that you will be selling? In other words, Will there be a certain limited amount initially produced? After this production runs out and/or are all sold out, will more Tricorders be produced and sold in the future? Or, will this be a “limited issue” production?

In the future, if these are all sold out, will there be more upgraded/updated Tricorders later produced? And also, will future library discs be updated and/or added to the library?

Thanks!
~Tom

We are producing an initial amount of Tricorders. If demand is strong enough to warrant a second production run then we will make more. In that respect, this is not a production run, limited to a certain arbitrary number. If we produce more Tricorders in the future they are likely to be exactly the same. The discs have a mechanical play value and do not in themselves store information, they are meant to look as though they store information, but are merely used to trigger the different Tricorder functions.
Chris said “we are producing an initial amount of Tricorders. If demand is strong enough to warrant a second production run then we will make more”

Exactly how much more evidence do they need of the demand for these things? They can’t keep them in stock. They sell out the initial run in 3 months. Every time they go up for sale they get sold out in a half hour, either by legitimate buyers that just want a Tricorder or scalpers that know the demand is so high they can resell them for double the price. It seems to me there is clearly a very high demand for them.

That may be the way to go……

Like some products ….cars especially…..never buy the first year of new car models. They usually have flaws. Buy the second or third year when they’ve worked out the flaws. Perhaps the tricorder is the same way…..wait for newer revisions.
Newer versions aren't always better. The consensus that I've seen seems to be the sounds were a step down on the second version of the Wand comm. The later (2nd?) version of the AA comm had crappy dark a grill. However, I'll admit that my Tricorder is going back to Wand (for exchange) tomorrow morning because of the upper door issue.

Yup, I skipped the anniversary L.E run of the comms ... sounds were "toy" generic and had no immersion.

I bet most, if not all of the companies represented at San Diego Comic-Con were probably fielding questions about sales, tariffs, and product availability. I wonder why Wand didn’t make a formal appearance this year to address all this and boost sales?
Probably because as I have speculated earlier they lost money on the Tric

That and a booth at comic-con is not cheap .

There are some reviews on Amazon calling it a cheap toy and not worth the money OR five year wait and it not being in the same league as the Comm or Phaser quality wise

Whaaaaaaaaaat  Cheap toy?
If anything I think wand has learned a few things since the comm and phaser.

Some people just want to sow discontent.

On Amazon the tricorder has 293 global ratings and an average of 4.7 stars. Eighty four percent give it five stars. Eight percent give it four starts. Six percent give it three starts. That leaves just two percent for two and one star ratings.

Most sellers would kill for their product to have 4.7 stars on average.

Asalaw……you or should I say…your Avatar Alien was featured in a product FE is looking to make….which is a lights, sound, video player (mp4) version of the TOS enterprise bridge.

It’s shown here still as a prototype without lights, sounds, graphics..but the mp4 player was up and running a sample file (short teaser clip) featuring you ;) ;). …..I don’t know any other details.

TOS always has more Merch made for it, than it’s spin-off’s …imo.

Well the backup trike is all good.
The discs are a little stiffer going in and out and need a bit of a polish but all functioning.

The door is the same as the one I'm currently using in regards to the angle but closes slightly different, as though it's padded but it isn't.

The hood opens and closes the same as they all pretty much do without adjusting the plastic ratchet pin BUT it's very smooth and you can't hear the ratchet sound until you start to rotate it all the way up.

All electronic functions work just fine.

I guess each one has different "personality".

I'll charge it overnight to make sure it holds the charge and then I'll remove the battery and keep it as backup.

I'll also probably get the season 1 strap and put that on it.

Got my Mark 1 scanner back from Dennis too so happy days.

I've been itching to do that with mine too. But it might hold its value better if it's sealed in the box. Not sure what to do.
Yes I was 50 50 but then it crossed my mind that if there's an issue with it down the line theres no chance of replacement or repair, so I decided to check it over.

I don't really want to leave the battery in there anyway, even with the plastic tag put back in to seperate the contact.

I'll put everything back in the box as it was (minus the battery)

Notice what the door might have looked like, had extra effort been given to design it so that the rod isn’t seen and covered to prevent bowing, also giving it what would probably be the correct pivotation without klugey pieces, so that the door opens to perfect 90deg and easily closes back….

Such a cleaner look………..

Why Wand….Why? WAHhhhhhhhhhhhh……. :)

They probably ran into a last-minute design issue and couldn’t get the tolerances right in time, so they just proceeded as-is to meet the production deadline. I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets addressed in a second run, if they do one.
