Well, because very often shippers employ animals like the Samsonite suitcase gorilla from back in the day, and if TWC didn't give us an inner shipping box, the actual product box would often arrive badly damaged. My own Amazon UK shipping box arrived dented, but the inner product box was pristine. I've seen outer boxes in photos that arrived crumpled with enormous rents in them, but again the inner boxes were fine.
This is something we should be grateful for--with all the complaining online about availability, can you just imagine what would happen if tricorders started arriving with damaged product boxes? Pitchforks and torches, you can rest assured.
I’ll most likely just toss the tricorder and keep the boxes.
Noticing the scanner sound is not that loud as compared with playing the logs. Normal? Have it up to 100%.

Yeah, the logs are quite loud, including the personal logs if you record them. And yes they're absolutely louder than the scanner sound, but that's loud enough that my wife complained about it. And she's a Navy brat who never complains about anything.
Thanks, Maybe I'm used to the MR which is nasty loud for scanner. I hear everything fine, just seems like 100% would be annoying and it's not.

I just tried the scanner sound at 100% and it isn’t “chase my wife out of the room” loud. But at a level not to be annoying for me either but I prefer 75%.

Sounds good but I was referring more to it being a shame they don't have updates and any interesting new goodies lined up, you make something with a capability ... utilise it.
Also the fact that the service menu has "USB update", is it click bait or do they have plans of some sort at some stage, at some time, in the future, far from now ... when I'm dead.
I know the Pip-Boy from The Wand Company has a USB port for updates as well. They've released several updates since inception and I have patched the software this way a few times now. Sometimes they have added software features.
Stands to reason they've done something similar for the tricorder.

I've kept my sound level at 20, can hear the logs and the scanning sound is subtle but audible and not intrusive. Screen brightness at 100 and lamp at 10. I usually have the moire illumination off, pity it just looks like a black disc without it but what can ya do?

The USB-C charging port can also be used to transfer data….much like todays cellphone. It should be a dual function port.

Well, if you don’t use the moire and it’s dark….there’s enough moire bezel depth left …and there’s enough moire references on the goooooog for you to print out on paper a brighter moire representation and cut it to fit over the dark moire disc. How you affix it is up to you….
Here’s the moire from the TWC blog…….you can screenshoot a freeze frame, resize if needed, and brighten/contrast

Edit: you can take it further and make the moire quasi reflective by taking the moire cut out and stick to it that clear plastic sheeting material that has one side being sticky adhesive and the other side not…then trim circular to fit….if you know what I mean.
