The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

I don't know if anyone noticed, but 80,000 data discs means a production run of 10,000 tricorders. That feels like a substantial run. Does anyone know the run figures on the phaser and communicator?
I believe they always said they needed to do runs of about 10,000 units, which is why they have always said they didn't plan on doing the Phaser again because they didn't think they could sell that many. That being said, they did do a second run of the Communicator with some small upgrades about 2 years ago.

Yes, I believe that's correct. It's a manufacturer minimum run issue.

Can you imagine a Wand Company Away Team Set - just like the old days? All in one, communicator, phaser, and tricorder.
I would love that, but it's highly unlikely given the economics involved. But I wonder if they could be persuaded to create a box that could hold all three cases if you already own the props. Or accommodate all three props with foam cutouts? It would look like the old AMT Field Exploration Set box, only bigger. Heavy reinforced cardboard would be fine with me...

As it is, I might lay out for the model kit on fleabay just to display the box with my three Wand props.

They also said that the changes in televisions since the phaser run plus changes in electronic componentry would require substantial alterations to the internals and functionality. Essentially, and all-new R&D process for something they'd "already done before" and thus of dubious sell-through capability. And the couldn't do an accurate non-functional lights-and-sound replica, as they're not licensed for that.

Yeah, not to mention the 10,000 unit minimum when they’ve already sold that many. The market’s saturated.

Well…..they still love me…..despite my whines, my little faith and my satirical graphic renditions……I got the email tooooooooooo!

Now, my whine is the price point….what will it cost? And could my wallet survive the pain?

I am willing too barter my first born!…..

Peace

If I recall correctly they had intended to keep it affordable with an initial target of (I think) $300 or so? With all the delays, direction changes, issues, redesigns, global inflation factors from plague and war, etc., I'm guessing the price will be higher. I'm hoping it still comes in at $500 or under if they do have to push the price up from the initial projection.

For $500 …. I’m going to expect it to Transform…..

What I'd love for it to do is be able to bluetooth link to my phone so I can use my Paramount+ app on the phone to play TOS on the Tricorder Screen. Yes, the phone screen is bigger but the geek/nerd/dork factor is through the roof doing it as I've described. ;)

I'd have gotten two at the initial $250-$300 price point without a second thought. Or even a first thought, really, I'd have just done it! But at $500, I don't know if I could justify that to myself. May as well build up a kit that I can call my own and use the difference to start/finish the rest of the landing party set.

Here’s the one done by Adam Savage…..using a raspberry….he stored all the episodes of TOS….pretty Cool

That tricorder was made by BrianM, who is in the video with Norman from Tested.
Oooops ….I stand corrected…..

Thx

Notice …it’s asked …who sources the display….he never answered that. It be nice to know for general details.

The only thing that could possibly come close to a real working (Wand) tricorder is one that plays all 79 TOS episodes. I'm impressed.
IF it gets up to, or exceed $500…….Wand should embed all 79 TOS episodes as a Thank You for Waiting Years Bonus.

I dunno... they're about to release a real, functional tricorder that is absolutely dead-on accurate to the original heroes, and even at $500 it would be vastly cheaper than the far-less-capable MR (if you can find one that still works). And they've gone to considerable expense and effort to do it (it's not as if they've been sitting on their hands). I can't find anything to complain about in that. In fact, I'm profoundly grateful, to the tune of two tricorders. The wait will have been worth it--after all, it's been a fifty-year wait since the AMT kit, what's an extra 24 months to get it right?
