The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Be nice to knock the brightness down too, if there must be a light, get it just enough so the moire pops in room lighting. Not the night light it is now.

That’s a matter of replacing the existing resisters with higher resister values that’s in circuit with the LEDs….

Raise the value of these 3 resisters R1, R2, R3, to decrease the brightness….imo…

Btw…..decreasing the resister’s values will only make the moire brighter…..

We do all know that tampering with the Tricorder VOIDS your Warranty……

Are you throwing in the towel…..to use the LED-TFT??
No... Ive spent the last 2 days looking at how to make a simple media player UI that works with the STM32H750 and YEAH its doable using MJPEG or some other formats like RGB565 etc... but my journey has brought me back to the display. I cant make anything work unless i know
1 - what pins on the microcontroller output to the display adapter and
2 - what pins on the display do what.

Fanatico you have figured out most of #1 IMO. Your post from a couple days ago was really informative, but its really only half the battle.

This morning when I got up i went looking for my torx screwdrivers... Thats the stage im at now.

I can’t see watching episodes on the moire. ;) :)

Although….that circular display has potential to show other fan inspired ST stuff…
Maybe someone could reconfigure the existing UI to work on the moire screen leaving the main screen free to play video without losing TWC stuff

Ya know ….. back in the day there was a hard manual A/B switch (which I still use lol) to switch between devices, peripheral signals etc.

We need something like that but on a much smaller scale that can be electronically controlled…so that it could be shoe horned into the tric somewhere with a small video player inside mounted as well with a micro sd card loaded with ST episodes, movies, etc.

The operation would then be having an installed A/B switcher 2 inputs 1 output to the display, enabled by a physical switch perhaps mounted to the back panel of the tric.

As a precaution…..turn off the tric before switching to A-TWC or B-USER files player.

Just thinkin….

Here’s a basic idea for example….a modern day switcher….there are many variations and sizes, specs, etc….on the www…just one LCD-TFT (the tric’s) from which you are feeding it two separate sets of switched signals…

Well….let’s go this way…..what would have been easier based on the low Desilu budgets for each episode and cheaper to do machining metal wise, for creating the TOS communicator ….having a solid one piece antenna/cover without multi hole perforations (essentially multi cutouts) or ….with perforations?
Difference is you can buy perforated brass sheet, which is undoubtedly what Wah Chang would have done to make the antennas. Rather different from taking an already-existing prop and cutting holes in it.

Agree 100% this would be the best outcome.. I don't want to lose the current user interface and it certainly seems possible to have both.

It would be nice to have video playing on the screen and still have the 3 lights in the activities unit and the moire light functional.
Would having the existing board powered up and working while the display is bypassed to an external player be bad do you think?
I do think having both powered off when switching is smart.
I guess could just use a couple extension ribbons 1 from the display and 1 from the mainboard so all the hookups are in the lower compartment, and then manually switch them to what you want.

Although conceptually this is all speculative…..

How would one take ….at best an Rgb 3 wire (signals) output from an off the shelf player and expand it’s output to be distributed into 3 sets of the display Rgb inputs (R=0-7, G=0-7, B=0-7) that are required as the inputs of the lcd-TFT display?

That’s where MAPPING programming comes in and has to be programmed into the ARM LTDC Controller….

RGB888 is just one example display out of other that can be used….

This ain’t no easy walk in the park……..if the tric display just needed an RGB 3 wire input….then things wouldn’t be so complicated….but that’s not the case…

If we had the pin map for our display, I wonder if something like this would work:
EBAY LINK or another EBAY LINK
The description seems to suggest he can do custom display connections

Datz funny…. I was lookin at something like this, but not actually using this…..

Using the A/V output of a video files player to a converter board that can output the right signals the lcd-TFT could display on the screen…

Of course changing out the rca connectors….for a mini plug that will go into the video files player.

Still going to need some type of switcher..

The part number and mfg to the tric lcd-TFT would expand the possibilities I presume..
