The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

On the XDA….your hilarious
You know.. It took me ALL DAY to make that guide lol, so im glad someone got at least a laugh or two from it. I put my tricorder into update mode probably 30+ times and connected/disconnected it to my PC at least 10 times, and i didnt brick it!
But the real scary part is still to come. Im starting to look into building my own firmware with video playback capabilities. The company that made the microcontroller and the STM32 firmware extractor also makes a program called TouchGFX that can be used to make a GUI for the STM32 chip we have. It looks complicated to a n00b like me, but i discovered it has a "Video Widget" option that is making me want to give it a go. That'll mean that eventually, I will need to flash it onto my tricorder and THAT will be a nail-biter for sure

Sometimes one can trace a company to its stylized logo online….there are online free utilities for that.

I think the “W” stamped on the lcd cable assembly is a stylized logo…..not including the standard font “L”.

So I’m no artist but here’s the closest I can come to what the logo may look like…..dimensionally it’s probably not correct but perhaps close enough….

I don’t know if the color is right……the white used on the ribbon is stand silkscreening white for PCB’s, and some cables and connectors. (Maybe it is white?)

I haven’t tried yet to trace the logo……but if others want to join in …feel free

Great reproduction! In my never-ending googling, I found a company called Winstar that manufactures LCD displays, and a lot of their model numbers begin with W like this one for example SPI TFT Display, SPI TFT LCD, SPI LCD Display, SPI Display Module but the logo doesn't match. I also thought for a time the logo was from another company called Waveshare, but that didn't work out either.
Then someone over at the other RPF commented this:
"what makes you assume the silksreen Print on the FPC is the display part-no?"
So I guess its possible that the ribbon cable number has nothing to do with the display its attached to, and worse case the ribbon maybe made by a different company than the one that makes the display?! I'm never going to know for sure unless i go in and look for myself. If i wasn't needing my trike for all this software exploration I probably would've taken it apart already

At your own risk……

You do have the Tricorder “backup” firmware after all.

Btw…I updated the logo dimensionally (bit better) in my previous post.

Is “"what makes you assume the silksreen Print on the FPC is the display part-no?"” from a different thread? I’m not seeing that reply.

Btw….I should of bookmarked it but I saw where someone believes it’s written in “C” ….which is different than C++

General question to all those that have had the chance to play with your Tricorder’s for those that have them….have any Easter egg’s not already mentioned in this thread, been found from operations, features, functions etc…not mentioned in the user manual?

A second look…..

A wild goooooooooose chase perhaps

Either or?….

I’ve been enjoying watching you guys digging into the guts of this thing. I’m staying in our RV for a month in the New Mexico mountains and will be working remotely. I set up a work space and just had to bring a piece of home with me.
Sometimes I worry our in-depth chats about micro controllers and display screen ribbon cables are annoying for other members so thanks for saying that.
Pretty sweet little work-nook ya got there! Wouldn't it be nice to have some random TOS episode playing quietly on that beauty while you're working... :p

not at all! I'm glad this thread is finally turning into a "make it super accurate and add more features" thread after 5 years of waiting for these things.
This is what the RPF is about. Post to your heart's content!

Props for numbering the pins on the FPC connector!

Can you post the same pic….but without the red signal traces….and multi color through holes……

I think I found the correct VDD on the ARM ;)

Thx..
