The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Did you try using the manual overide to move the moire back and forth in the area that it’s hanging up in?

Saw your post on the Blog, I hope Chris replies.
Thanks for the info on the case. I'll definitely look into them.

Because I sent my inquiry to both the site and to Customer Service, I believe Chis removed my post there and responded to me directly by email just 15 min ago - aka 2:15 am London time (Love Chris and his dedication!). He said "I think your issue is a combination of a tolerance stack and a slightly weaker motor." So he said he believes it's "a return issue" ie TWC "will replace it with a new one." So Chris is getting that process started for me. :)

I posting this here because I hope it will prompt boatman to contact TWC as well about his issue (if he hasn't already), since it sounds like his is the same problem.

I noticed your post was removed, but it’s cool he emailed you direct.

A stroll through memory lane….

From the Goooog

……”Evidently, it seems that the two Wah Chang "hero" tricorders were frequently disassembled while on the Desilu soundstages and re-constructed with new parts to enhance their appearance.

And now, the hero TOS Tricorder”....

Wand definitely did some improvements….. :)

Those bottom two images are from a disassembled Fiberglass midgrade and not a Wah Chang Hero.

Also…that Wah Hero is a work of art, even in its current state. Gorgeous.

Perhaps I misinterpreted what was shown for Greg Jein at Star Trek Prop Authority …scroll down left side. Are you asserting it’s bogus disinformation as presented?

What’s your Star Trek source for undeniable undisputed Star Trek truths? :)

I guess my “undisputed Star Trek truth” is, well, that’s fiberglass…not Kydex. :)

Those are also well-documented photos of a disassembled midgrade.

Ok it’s fiberglass…..I’m not trying to be an ahole at the moment….I’m always game to learn new sources…..so you say “well documented” …..where would I find this “well documented”. A precise source reference would be nice.

Thanks, BTW for any potential hackers out there. In the Wanda blog one person had a fatal error on his tricorder and he lists the error. Of interest, the error listed “ASSERTION FAILED! – FILE: TRICORDER.CPP, LINE: 215”
So that would indicate that the source code is written in C++.

Moving forward…;)

From the Wand blog…..

was browsing the log entries on my tricorder last night when it suddenly crashed. A black screen with green text appeared- very much like an old character based terminal. I took a picture of it, but I have no way of posting it here. Here’s an abbreviated transcription of the text on that screen:

SYSTEM FAILURE- …

CORE TEMP.: …
AMBIENT TEMP.: …

^^^ ASSERTION FAILED! – FILE: TRICORDER.CPP, LINE: 215 ^^^

NUMBER OF ERRORS: 5
ACCELEROMETER FAILED SELF-TEST
HOOD ACCELEROMETER FAILED TO INITIALISE
ACCELEROMETER FAILED SELF TEST
BODY ACCELEROMETER FAILED TO INITIALISE
FAILED TO INITIALISE THE SENSOR SYSTEM

———————————
PRESS AND HOLD RIGHT BUTTON TO RESET THE TRICORDER

I reset the tricorder, and all appeared normal afterwards. Has anyone else experience this?

sometimes the software gets its knickers in a twist and then a reset either by the reset pin on the side of the hood or the long button press sorts it out

They missed this part of the opening captain's log from Menagerie, Part 2:
Why? Why does Spock want to take to that forbidden world his former captain? Mutilated by a recent space disaster, now a shell of a man, unable to speak or move? The only answer Spock would give was on the hearing-room screen. How Spock could do this he refused to explain, but there before our eyes, actual images from thirteen years ago of Captain Pike as he was when he commanded this vessel, of Spock in those days, and of how the Enterprise had become the first and only starship to visit Talos Four. They had received a distress signal from that planet and discovered there, still alive after many years, the survivors of a missing vessel, only to find it was all an illusion. No survivors, no encampment, itwas all a trap set by a race of beings who could make a man believe he was seeing anything they wished him to see, and Captain Pike was gone, a prisoner for some unknown purpose.

Take anything from that site with a HUGE grain of sale and never believe everything you read from Google

Well I have my tricorder and it's well crafted. Has excellent sound and you can really manage the system settings. Some of the menus could use help, which I hope to see in the future update. A quicker way to get to the sensor functions and videos would be a good improvement. Some back buttons bring you totally to the top menu and then you have to go back down again is a pain and would be better served by a home and back button selection.

Let me re-word that….

Take anyone who’s says authoritatively “well documented” without providing source references, with a huge grain of salt and don’t always believe anyone with a “trust me bro” attitude when proof isn’t provided.

If one is to use the wording “well documented”, that wording alone is subjective, and requires a measure providence and precedence.

Where …where are all the sources of all those who say “well documented” and nothing more to substantiate it? (A rhetorical question)

Moving forward…..

As for Google….one might want to realize that the generation of our kids and grandkids are living in Google. It’s part of their daily lives. Have you tried taking away their devices for any period of time? It’s a digital drug that they are addicted to. That’s the way they are now weened. Other than to give birth, the need for knowledge from their parents is becoming Obsolete. Google will raise your kids for you whether you like it or not.

…..back to Tricorder’s….

:) ;)

Thanks for this additional comment, I wanted to close the loop for all interested parties - I did reach out to WC Support, have shipped the unit back today and am just awaiting confirmation of shipment of the replacement unit.

Edit / My issue did get worse over time, to the point where it began to hang up entirely and grind through ~25% of the rotation, so glad I caught and flagged it while it was still just a "stutter"

My experience was similar when the moire motor on my comm failed several years back. Charlotte replaced the unit right away, and years after that she coached me through a battery replacement on the same comm. Best customer service I've ever dealt with.

Those two wires when you have to take the midplate out, even more so when you're modding them *Cringe*

That’s all good and dandy …but if one doesn’t want to wait for updates and instead wants to hack in to do other things…well waiting around for TWC to give one notice and instructions for an update….might not suit the impatient. Hacking is a challenge, hackers love a good challenge ;)
Caution, could end up bricking the device and it's currently difficult to purchase a replacement.
