The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

I love your way of thinking. I used to be SO excited about getting one, but now, well, now I’m thinking I could put 400.00 to better use.
For most of us in the US there seems no end in sight for it being available.
We are continually told "Soon" while I see people posting about their tricorders all over the web.
The more I read, the more realistic I am about it. It's a very expensive toy.
A very loooong delayed very expensive toy.
A very, very expensive toy.
The functionality seems ok, not great.
For me is it going to be worth $415 plus Massachusetts sales tax and
possible shipping? $441+ is what I'm looking at.

I understand that things were backed up because of the tariff situation.
I understand also that there is nothing TWC can do at this time, its all in Amazon's hands.

Most of the original 1200 sold tricorders are most likely sitting on someones shelf collecting dust already while we wait for Amazon to get their $%!^ together.

The whole situation is just sad.

A sad ending to a sad and drawn out project that we were all so excited to hear about 5 years ago.

Amazon got the Trics before Memorial day, maybe the can get their act together and put them on sale by Labor Day!

The continual plague of issues with the tricorder are kind of burning out all the potential joy of owning it.

Sadly I have to agree with you mach7. The delay at this point seems arbitrary due to the fact they are being sold in other areas that those of us in the USA aren't privy too.

The only thing I can think of is that they will be available when "prime days " are in affect?

At this point who knows. Its so anticlimactic fer sure.

I have a fantasy that the Tricorders will go on sale for Prime Day and that Amazon will offer them at a price that effectively obliterates the tariff price increase. Sure, that is absolute fantasy and very likely NOT to happen, but right now it seems about as plausible as my getting a Tricorder before the summer ends...

That fantasy is not that far fetched.
Here’s how I see it playing out.
Wand keeps saying over and over ad nauseam that they will “make enough for everyone”. They end up unintentionally flooding the market because people are refusing to spend that much for a toy. As mentioned before, the web is saturated with so many videos on this and how it works the charm and mystery is now gone. Like I said before, now that I know everything it does, I’m in no hurry at all to buy one. While at one point I was tempted to spend 400.00 max (but it will cost you more than that), honestly, now I don’t even want to spend 300.00. Hell, I’m perfectly happy with my Diamond Select. Let’s just pretend that those that don’t have one are felling the same way. Now they eventually get them in the states and they sell them on Amazon US for minimum 400.00.
Now they sit and they don’t sell. They have quite of bit of stock they need to get rid of. Now they reduce the price, say fifty bucks.
They are still not selling. Panic sets in.
Further reduction. Now it’s 250.00.
They are still not selling. Now they are 200.00.
Many sell but not nearly enough to eliminate all of their stock.
Now they are turning up at Ollie’s for 100.00, possibly even Best Buy (again).

You see where I’m going with this?
Keep in mind I have very little to go on other than what I see trending on social media, so I’m wildly speculating.
To be fair (and for those who know me) I have always been a glass half empty kind of guy. I WANT the Wand Company to prosper and do well. They make the most amazing products at reasonable prices. But let face it. Bad luck and bad timing turned this into a disaster for them. This wasn’t their fault.

So I wait patiently. Hey, I could be 100% wrong, and part of me hopes I am. If I am, I’m completely fine with that and I will miss out, albeit 400.00 richer. But if I’m right…well, if I’m right, many of us will be getting a tricorder at a deep, deep discount.

For a toy associated with "where no man has gone before", this has also lost its luster for me. It has gone to others - not me. The thrill of "discovery" is gone as I have now seen what everyone else has discovered and bragged about their toy which they got before me. After following this for 5 years and thinking it would be here in 2021, based on TWC promo posts, I have become tired and jaded. If Amazon is now delaying a product for their own prime promotion I will be very disappointed. I do not have prime, I seldom use Amazon (other than books) if I can avoid it. I recently bought yet another TWC Pokemon ball on Amazon. First to support and company and second to make sure my Amazon connection for purchase still worked. They sent the collectable in a PAPER BAG! It was destroyed by the time it got to me and I had to waste my time returning it. I did not buy another and am beginning to question the value of this toy also.

Well it won't ever decrease in price that much or at all. I guess once all the TOS fans get one and there are still a ton left it may happen. We shall see.

Maybe I am an anomaly. My enthusiasm hasn't wavered in 5 years because the kid in me STILL thinks this is cool, no matter how you slice it. Maybe it's because I've never really mastered electronics so I couldn't make one for myself. I have the Diamond Select Tricorders (all of them) and the Master Replicas Tricorder. I've had others that I have bought over the years, and they have all been serviceable. The DS ones are certainly great knock-around Tricorders, but are understandably limited in what they can do. The TWC Tricorder is a marvel in what it can do and the promise of what it may be able to do. And, by the way, I have spent SIGNIFICANTLY MORE on Tricorder replicas apiece than TWC is offering for theirs. That is still a bargain in my book.

I felt the same about the TOMY Enterprise. I have the MR Enterprise (one nacelle has stopped spinning and the other one is making noise), but for a DIE-CAST (read durable) replica that has the same lighting AND detailed interiors for less than half of what MR offered theirs for? That is ABSOLUTELY a bargain and worth any wait.

Perhaps I'm not a nitpicker, but to me, TWC has had quality products from the jump. AND, might I add, we've seen companies fold thanks to the Pandemic. Anyone else get ultimately ripped off by ANOVOS? TWC has somehow managed to keep this project going for five years and I, for one, want to support them as much as possible if it means I'm going to get a quality product. Also, let's not forget that like practically every other company/promised product (MR HAL-9000, ANOVOS whatever-you-want), they haven't taken any money in advance.

Look, I'm not out to shame anyone or bash anyone because they aren't nearly as excited anymore. And I can't argue that there may be better ways to spend $415. The same, however, can be said for ANY kind of replica/costuming purchase. This one seems like a bargain that can barely be beat. So for me, I will sit back and wait (as patiently as I can), in the hopes that this thing shows up while I'm still (relatively) young enough to appreciate it-- and be grateful to the team at TWC for doing what they can to get this out there to us.

**FOOTNOTE -- I am well aware, from my experience, that this post could age VERY badly if things turn south. But for now, my hopes are up and my confidence is still high.
