The Walking Dead Show Discussion - with potential spoilers

Re: The Walking Dead series hits the web early

Are you talking about THIS? Cuz that's a lock, not really a "safety" in the traditional sense of the word. (although they use the word *safety*, as apparently people are too stupid to infer that the concept of a lock might be to add some safety)

And yeah, he "clicked" the slide-stop with his thumb while the pistol was in a firing configuration. Which would do exactly nothing.

I thought the Glock gag was funny too but to me it is a pale shadow compared to the most egregious firearm blunder in the whole show...

Rick kills several zombies by putting his .357 Colt Python right up to their forehead or within inches of their forehead and all we see is a neat little hole in their head. At that range, a .357 would turn the average head into a canoe, let alone a half rotten zombie skull. I get it though, we can't have uber gore and gray matter splatter on network TV....still.....:lol

Also, the bag full o' guns he had when on horseback was obviously full of rubber stunts. If you look (not too) closely, you'll see that a lot of the barrels are solid.

And finally, I get the whole small town cop with the revolver thing, but Rick has access to a lot of weapons and something tells me that any one who found themselves in that situation would ditch the most beloved 6 shooter in favor of something that held more rounds. He never used a revolver in the comic.

In any case, I love it so far. I'll definitely keep watching.

Re: The Walking Dead series hits the web early

Just caught this show a couple of days ago and I must say that this show gives many of the big studio zombie films a run for their money, and delivers on the gore factor.
I would even say it is one of the best zombie stories Ive ever seen.

As soon as I saw Frank Darabonts name at the beginning I knew it would be good.

Cant wait for next week.

As soon as I saw Frank Darabonts name at the beginning I knew it would be good.

Unfortunately, that's the only episode he's listed as directing. He is a writer for the series. Looking at the other directors, they've all worked on AMC or FX channel shows that I like, so hoping they keep the same feel for their episodes.

Just watched the pilot here in the UK, really enjoyed it TBH. The dead dont seem too slow, and not too fast and on crack as the DOD remake :lol.
I like the fact the gore has been kept in for a TV show too, though, why did the poor Horsey have to buy it lol, there he was, happy in his field and along comes an officer of the law.

Id agree the opening is a little tired, but, it was done well, and yes, opening that door into the lot of piled up dead was pretty chilling.

Im eager to see more, and hopefully, the other writers on the show, keep the same momentum.

i think the slower walking zombies that "move fast" are because they were lumbering and lost their balance. so their speed is because of momentum of almost falling over.

I really enjoyed the first episode. It is well done with great acting and the FX is fantastic. That zombie girl dragging herself across that Park still gives me shivers....

I loved this and can't wait to see more episodes!! The zombies are perfect as far as I am concerned and the horse eating made me screamed out loud! I couldn't believe they ate the horse!! :lol I just was not expecting the horse to go out like that.

Actually, not likely. Point blank range with a 44 magnum leaves a half inch hole in and about an inch coming out of a medium sized animals skull. Hollow points will still leave a small entry wound, but the exit wound will get quite nasty. A .45 1911 travels at a much slower velocity and also leaves a normal sized entry wound, and the exit wound is a bit messier. Unfortunately in my life I've encountered a fair amount of people who've been shot, and movies exaggerate wounds from handguns, but understate wounds caused by larger weapons like 30 cal machine guns and up, usually war movies.

That said, My wife and I enjoyed the first episode a whole lot once it got going, and we look forward to the next ep. Loved the production values. Of course the wife goes, "oh no, not the horse!". Only once or twice did I think 'that's not a good idea', or 'I wouldn't do that'.

You know, I can't remember the last time I was excited about and looking forward to watching a television show. It's been several years. But this show, I'm excited to see again tonight.

^Right there with ya:) I loved that last quote of the show:
"Hey, you. Dumb *%$. Yeah, you in the tank. Cozy?" That actor gave that line perfect delivery.

You said it brother. :thumbsup

Just watched the preview AMC posted of tonight's episode. Seems that they're straying a bit from the arc of the comics. I thought the end of the first graphic novel was a perfect end point for the first season.

I figured they'd have to do so. It's been awhile since I read the graphic novels, so I don't remember where the first one ended, but as much as I'd like the show to go on, I don't see it having 13+ seasons.

I'm liking that it isn't just people in makeup and torn clothes. They have dead people who look like they are decomposing. That woman in the park who had two femurs wigging behind her and one full arm and half of the other was a great effect.

They are showing a wider range of the stages of decomposition in other words.

As with any adaptation, there will be some artistic license involved.
Frank Darabont has a good history of sticking close to the source material. I'm sure any changes he makes will be acceptable.

The bit at the gas station wasn't in the comic, and the farmhouse scene was changed a bit, and the chopper flying overhead was not in the comic as well... but were good, IMO. I would like to see Rick have his hand axe though.

You just know from the comic that there are some story lines that will need to be cleaned up or completely changed to fit the T.V. adaptation. Eigther way, I am enjoying it and can't wait for tonight's episode.

Oh, I agree... there have to changes and exceptions made when going from one medium to another. A lot was changed for the TV program, I can handle that. I do think Rick's a bit older on TV than I really expected, I'm not sure how I am on that one just yet.

The preview just took me a little further from the comic than I expected... it's not a complaint, just an observation.
