The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

Fourth in the animated Resident Evil movie series brings together the main cast from all the games together for the first time.

The impressive full State of Play presentation for Final Fantasy XVI.
SquareEnix really pumping in the production value for this one. It seems Final Fantasy XVI is an amalgamation of numerous types of games combined into one. Hope it works out as the gameplay seems to offer something for everyone. I know I have it pre-ordered.

Also, Metal Gear voice actress just made a *suspicious* tweet.

I really hope FFXVI is good since SE has bene putting out some bumbers recently (although honestly I really enjoyed Babylon’s Fall despite it being the “failure” game of 2022).

Looks like hinting at a MGS3 remake. Would be thrilled if they were working on a spinoff game focused on the Boss though. There are rumors of other Metal Gear projects and the Boss is one of my favorite female video game characters. So much potential to delve into her story.

Wow, can't believe I just spent the last 19 days playing through the Grand Theft Auto games, The Definitive Edition that came out late 2021.
Was only $30.
While all 3 games did look better than the old PS2 versions, there were so many new glitches and issues. I see why a lot of people complained at launch....and some issues were fixed already.
Took only 4 days to get the Platinum trophy for GTA 3.
Vice City took 5 days...while San Andreas took 10 days. So many glitches happened, a few times I thought I would be able to do it. In fact, this is the first time I've even been able to 100 percent the game, as all the glitches messed me up a few times in the past on the PS2.
So there was a bit of a determination going on.
Then the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters just hit consoles last week....so there I go spending $80 on games I've bought in the past....its like Star Wars re-re-re-releases.
I'm going to wait and get some stuff done around the house first.....I get to addicted to this stuff.....

There are a couple of problems that I had with that "review". I mean, first off "it's only in 720p" like that's a bad thing. People today are ludicrously spoiled. It was a demo. Stop being stupid. Then, at the end, he says "but it's not the same as every single other shooter out there, the gun shakes and it's hard to be accurate! Oh, you mean like REAL LIFE! In a hyper-realistic video game? Nah! Tell me it ain't so! You can't have it both ways.

When I first saw this I thought it was a VR game.

I'm curious to see how they retain the realistic gun movements while also giving you some sense of targeting.

Trying to play survivor, so far I like it though i'm not far at all. However this release is just garbage. How these companies get off releasing this stuff well before it's ready for the public is beyond me. But people keep buying it so we get to be their testers.

I'm having to run it as an administrator to get it to actually launch, which is fine. Be better if they told you that up front so you didn't have to figure it out, but whatever. Then it crashes and you can't get back in seemingly without a full restart.

If you wanna jack your prices up, at least have the balls to actually test your stuff before you release it.

I'm surprised, the digital foundry tech review didn't mention anything that drastic happening. But the min spec for this one is still pretty beefy, not that that should have anything to do with running as an admin.

Well, i9-11k, 64gb ram, and 3070....i'm not hurting for juice to play.

It crashes....A LOT.

And i'd forgotten the one thing i didn't like about the original, but it's back in this one. The fact there are no saves, just meditation spots and they backload the sections so if you die at the end, you've gotta redo the whole thing. It wouldn't be that bad i guess if not for the crashes, but there's no way they tested this worth a damn.

I also don't get 'requiring' being connected to the internet for a single play game. I get putting achievements on your account and whatnot, but has nothing to do with actually playing.

If you look at their responses it's basically run windows, video driver and the game. That's not a solution, that's troubleshooting. And no one runs their system without antivirus and other things these days. Says it doens't like VPN's either. Well, you don't just turn off a VPN. At least not mine. You have to uninstall it to get back to the internet without it. As a developer, you don't get to stick your head in the sand and say if you don't run a totally clean system, it's on you.

I just started up Salt and Sanctuary after having it sitting on my PS4 for years. It's literally a Soulsborne game combined with a Metroidvania. I'm really digging it. Has the exact same type of gameplay, exploration, pattern based fighting, stat boosting and boss battling as a FromSoft game but with the 2D platforming and level backtracking as a Metroid/Castlevania game. Nice grim atmosphere and always fun hacking apart enemies with nice satisfying dismemberment and blood spray. Also players being able to leave notes for each other as clues in game as well as occasionally seeing other players in hubs. I thought my character was cool looking, but I see some players who are decked out like they are right out of Berserk.

I'm actually proud of myself not having to resort to a guide yet. Taken down a good six or so bosses just doing the old rinse and repeat method of dying over and over until I figure out their patterns and weaknesses. Also has that old FromSoft thing where you die you lose all your collected 'Souls' or in this case 'Salt' but can go back to the spot where you died and reclaim them. I have no idea how far I am into the game, I'd like to beat it because I also have the sequel sitting on my PS4. But I may take a break and run through the console edition of the Shadowrun trilogy first.

Sadly confirms why I've put off playing it.
Ever since they screwed up the PC version of Force Unleashed 2 so bad that the camera controls would often get stuck in unusable angles, making the game unplayable, I won't touch a AAA game until there's been at least two patches out for it.

The 3070 might be part of your issue. Apparently this game really hogs VRAM and 8gb isn't giving it enough headroom.

I'm on a 3070ti and will probably be getting it on Xbox just to get a consistent experience I don't have to fiddle with.

Jedi Survivor must have had some ID4 fans or folks that worked on the movie(s.)
