Don't make the same mistake I made.
I bought the case because it had a nice vintage style to it, but didn't realize that it was a home decor case....Not made for really carrying anything, but simply for display. When it arrived I couldn't believe how flimsy it was (Mainly the top and floor of the case, which was very thin wood)
I had to reinforce the whole thing with an inner lining of wood, remove the old tiny screws and replace it with bigger screws, add some reinforcing brackets, etc.
It's perfectly solid now, but I wasted a lot of time refitting this thing in order to support the stuff that would go inside.

I suggest you pick up an old wooden cigar box, lap desk, or just make sure it's nice and solid.

The handbook I bought. You can buy a Moleskine line-free notebook at most book stores or arts and crafts stores. THe kind I bought is called a cashier's notebook. It has a plain brown cardboard cover, has threaded stitching for the spine.
 
Excellent job, great attention to detail. I just may have to try one of these myself after seeing what you've done.

I've thought of three other items I'd add, a small bottle of Napolean cognac and a glass, for fortification after doing the deed and a hand mirror to help determine you have really identified a vampire, because sometimes the defense of "I know he was a vampire because when I drove a stake through his heart he died" may not always hold up:eek

Yeah, can definitely see the inner aging better now. Really a nice piece all the way around.
 
i am TOTALLY in love with this...i have a real thing for vintage items and, even though this is a modern remake (admittedly made with some older items), it just makes me want it BADLY. i hope your wife appreciates it, i'm going to start looking for parts to build my own!!!
 
That is really well done! Looks better than the vintage version, actually.

Though I know it would be time consuming and you might not want to, you'd probably be able to make some serious money putting these together and selling them.

Great workmanship!

Yeah, Ive been keeping an eye on the fan made vampire kits which have been on Ebay just to figure out the going price.
most of them don't sell above $150 (If they even sell at all)...As a matter a fact, most of them just sit on Ebay collecting dust for weeks at a time with a reserve of about $90-120.

Anything less than $350 and I would be losing money on just the cost of parts.


I saw one go for about $450 a week ago, but that one was supposedly made by some famous artist known to the goth/vamp community.
 
Having been inspired by DS's kit, I've set off to make my own. Gonna approach it from a slightly different angle, though. I'm going to make a "Distinguished Gentlemen's" VKK. Something a Duke, an Admiral or some other high society-type would have. It will be a smaller kit and a little more ornamental than the traditional 'working man's" kit.

Been scouring for a few weeks to find just the right box to begin my build with and finally scored what I've been looking for.

I'll post my progress, but it will be slow as I've discussed with DS, I want to try to get as many period-authentic pieces as possible. That takes time and money, so I expect this to take a while to assemble.

Here's a shot of the box I'm starting my kit with:

Their is a picture of the syringe and the Amber vial. The article also mentions that the soldiers carried vials of Apomorphine, Atropine, Cocaine, Morphine, Nitroglycerin, and Strychnine.

Looks like that might be it. The pic is a little blurry though.

Also, the syringe I got came in vintage metal capsule.
 
This is an amazing-looking prop. Kudos for including all the phials with the potions and herbs, most ppl forget that aspect of it.

I never posted on this one before, but it is hard to put into words how cool this is! So much thought, detail, awesomeness!!! A girl I know would absolutely love this thing! I'm going to shoot her a link to the YouTube videos!

UPDATE: After watching the YouTube videos I am even more impressed!
