The R2Builders are attempting to recreate the set from ANH. Does any one know what the exact dimensions are of the large boxes on the sides of the walls, or better yet the dimension of the door by itself?

Also, we're starting to suspect that those boxes are just "bins" of some sort, with vacuum formed pieces glued on top of them. Does any one have any information on how these may have been built?

I think we've figured every thing else out. Those boxes are the items in question.

Thanks. ;)

A while ago I found a person who owned one of the ROTS boxes and had him take measurements. I thought, "I may need this someday..." :)

They were indeed vacuformed. It appears the slope on the top side is greater than the slope on the bottom.

Hi Vince...I've already emailed dims to Mike McMaster...

I've been staring at this thing for a year now, and I think we can reduce the boxes just a tad and be fine...

Using the dims that Bartlett supplied, the boxes come out to about 22.4409" x 33.4646"...Give or take ;)

If we reduce that slightly to the boxes being about 21" x 30" each...We can use a 48" wide piece of material for the center panel and save money...And no one would be able to tell the difference...

I've thought that the originals may have been a found item, but I'm not sure...

Just my 2 cents...

Guys,

I should be able to pull on a 21" x 30" form on my machine. That's about 5 inches depth, right?

Yeah...Roughly...

Althought in some pics it really looks deeper...

I'll talk with McMaster and Vince over the weekend and try to get some plans for you soon Chris...

I cannot WAIT to see how this thing comes together...:)

Jason

ok...so which one of you is gonna make the plug and send it to Chris :D

I figured that you could... :D

I mean you have so much free time now and all...hehehe

Chris has said that he may be able to make the master if we get him some good info/reference to work from...

Jason

Well...

I know that a friend of mine was able to pull plastic r2 domes on his home made rig, and those are pretty deep...

Jason

Hey Vince,

I've got several good reference shots at home...I'll try to post them tonight...

Jason

I hope i can help

This is the same pic from the first post, but larger and the doors are correct

I found it on my HD, I got an even larger format, if you want it, PM me

Thanks. I just got a bunch of reference photos from McMaster.

I'll try drawing up a blueprint for the box next week.

if you want to do it the easy way, use either sheet abs or styrene for the entire areas that are flat. You figure once you build frames, bondo, paint... the cost would be about the same but would take less time with sheets of abs/styrene. You could even do that door design out of two sheets of it. Just use some black or grey acrylic paint on the side areas that are cut out to give it depth.
It looks like a very, very easy set to build.
You could even light those buttons with modified .99 cent store safety flashers or a ten led blinker board.
