The Star-Lord/Peter Quill Sling Bag thread

I have to second what Risu states. These are not Chicago screws or snaps. Most snaps out there have a domed top while Chicago screws have threaded long stems. These are definitely raised about 2-4 mm and have an edge. The tops are very flat and all edges are 90 degrees. Search Etsy for magnetic snaps you will find lots of them. I am going with 10mm width on my bag strap.

Inch or inch-and-a-quarter?

I am going with the 1.25".

I see a bunch of magnetic snaps, but they all have that dimple in the middle. Are you finding ones without the dimple?

Because I saw the costume at the arclight and some of them were disconnected and I could see the under side. The ones on the bag are the same size, shape, and patina as the ones on the jacket and pants, and they used probably 100 thousand of those things on all the costumes in the movie.

"Oval grommets" on etsy or aliexpress has them. They're sold out of china.
Thanks so much for providing this info - I found them! :D Although I think it worthy to mention that should any one pick up these grommets; they might want to consider getting the tools that set said grommets, too.

Specifically, this:
1 inch Oval Grommet tool, oval eye tool, grommer eyelet setter, oval eyelet setting tools S13[/h] Grommet Setter and hold cutter .jpg

It looks to me the strap that passes through the grommets is an inch so I would go with the inch and a quarter.
omg, thanks for pointing that out, man! I had already ordered the One Inch ones and am hoping that he didn't pop it into the mail yet...(sent him a quick note...crossing fingers...toes...schpleen)

From the supplier

"...one inch grommet is use for one inch strap. 1 1/4 inch grommet is use for 1 1/4 inch strap .
you don`t need to buy the bigger size , it will be too loose"

Doing some measuring. Assuming the D ring is 1.75 inches (which I am, based on the buckle being 1.75" strap size) I copy/pasted some pieces of the attaching strap, the one that runs through the grommets. It seems that 2.5 straps fit in the 1.75" D ring, so the strap would be .7". I'll probably go with the 1" interior sized grommets.

EDIT! Actually I think the strap is .8", based on the 1.75 inch buckle, and assuming it's actually a 2" D ring. Still going with the 1" grommets though.

I can't believe I'm about to spend $40+ on an oval grommet tool, but here we are. :facepalm

Edit: Can't seem to hunt down a 1.75 inch D-ring. Any ideas?

From videos I've seen, you can easily set the grommets from the back with other tools, like a screwdriver. I'm going to try that before spending the big bucks on the specialized tool.

I saw some posts around saying that some people found them at their local Tandy. However, I also heard that the 1.75" ring was discontinued as well...so I'm not sure. If I can't find any, I guess the next best thing would be a 2" D-ring.

Keep in mind that the strap gets wider after it leaves the buckle. The two ends that wraps around the buckle loops are cut in a bit to fit. It's more likely to be the 2" D-ring.

Do you mean this size change?

Or do you mean that immediately after the buckle, like how it looks squished into that space?

You may be right, it might be a 2 inch. I bought some 1.75s when I saw them just in case, but 2 might be better.

Here is the bag I ordered. Looks like a good size and shape, and I'll be detailing the exterior to match more closely

Yea, right where it folds over to go into the buckle it gets skinnier to fit. Looks like by at least 3/8" if not 1/2". I'll know when my buckle arrives and I have a chance to go to Tandy and look at the different sizes of d-rings.
