The Rise of Skywalker: Episode IX Graflex

So my KR kit arrived today and I love it! Beautiful engineering and craftsmanship. I’ve started to assemble it, starting with the clamp. As much as I like Khal’s solution for the dummy rivets, I decided I wanted something that looked closer to the prop, so I opted for 2.4mm pop rivets, which I glued in and sanded down, very happy with the results so far! Khal this kit is amazing! Thank you!

You’re very lucky!

Just about finished up my KR kit! Think I want to fade the scorch marks a little more, but other than that it’s done!

Amazing work!
What method did you use for the scorch effect?

Thank you! For the welds I used a dremel tool to expose the brass, which I then darkened with Brass Black, then for the scorching around it I used a mix of airbrush paints, layered until I got the desired look.

Very cool! The weld effect with dremel comes very close to the real prop.

I was fortunate enough to pick up one of the kits on Sunday and have been working on it today.

A WORD OF WARNING

Im using a Romans Upper for mine. The plating on the Romans doesn't like to adhere to the surface of the brass well when you're taking a dremel to it. As many have experience before, the romans can have quite flaky plating, and when I was cutting it, the plating on mine starting to peel. Fortunately it all peeling in places which could be covered with paint or the clamp, but it did peel none-the-less.

I have managed, through paint layering, to cover most of it up.

BE CAREFUL - I was light with the dremel at a suitable speed, but it did its thing.

khal1993 Would it be possible in future to sell the stencils separately? Im sure in the future Id like to have a re-go at doing this.

Yep. Got your email and got some spare so I’ll add them to the store for you when it’s open again next week ;)

My kit arrived today. Just pulled off the grips off the tube so I can attach it to my Roman's Gen 2 and must say I am very impressed with the strength of the double sided tape used to adhere them! Anyone know the brand? I want to get some of this for my other builds.
