The PEPAKURA question thread - PLEASE READ RULES IN FIRST POST!

This may seem like a really stupid question... But when using pepakura with foam, how do I cut the foam? I've tried using an x-acto knife, and that kinda works for cutting large shapes, but when there are two cuts really close to eachother, it just mutilates the foam. Also, it's impossible to modify the angle of the cut after the initial cut...

has anybody had the problem of Pepakura Designer showing mountain folds as valleys
the model I am working on is a dome and it showing bluelines all on the outside specifying Valley folds and when you zoom into the unfolded part he chose the dot dash line specifying Valley.

any help would be appreciated

Under the tab SETTINGS go to OTHER SETTINGS where it will tell which is which. If the model is a dark grey on the outside and bright white on the inside the modeler chose to use a different settup for the unfold settings (valley and mountain). Under the FILE tab go down to PATTERN INFO where it will tell you all of the unfold settings, just fold according to those settings.

And yeah, I've done a model without knowing this and it was ruined horrifically, since then I've done a lot of looking with pepakura. Hope this helps!

thanks Armorer I appreciated but since there is no way I know of to change that I guess I just need to pay attention when I fold it. oh by the way I discovered pattern info was only in viewer not designer.

appreciate your help

Designer is a whole different can of worms, I'm still finding goodies in that one :p

If you have designer you are in luck: Go to SETTINGS then to OTHER SETTINGS then from there you can change/edit the folds from there. Good luck.

I know this question has come up before, but I'm going to start my Iron Man suit in January. I'm 6'1. Do I need to resize the files to someone my height or should they be set for that size? The reseason I ask is that I see a lot of suits online and it looks like they are to small for the person. Thanks for anyones help.

I have a question.

I need to adjust a model to my size, and I found lots of tutorials on how to change the scale.

The matter is, I am not scaled as the model thinks!

For example, when building a Bicep for Iron Man (yes, yet another Iron Man foam suit), the original diameter is fine, but the lenght isn't. So I need to change the lenght but not the diameter, and Pepakura doesn't let me do it, since as soon as I change the lenght the diameter gets scaled accordingly.

Is there any way to do it manually?

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately.. no... The program automatically changes all the axis when you change one..... The best thing to do is to get the length right and after you pep it you can section out pieces to change the diameter of the piece... You can do that before or after you resin it.. but it is much easier to do after it is hardened.

Sent from my HTC One X

you should be able to export it from Pepakura Designer as an OBJ (file / export /3D model/UV info (*.OBJ) then you can edit the X Y and Z axes from another 3-D program. then just re-import to Pepakura

Hi all,

I'm new to pep and costume building and could use a bit of advice.
I've started my first pep of IM helmet and noticed that the faceplate doesn't really fit at the top. I really need to force the 2 sides and middle of the helmet to fit.

Could someone tell me if this is common, or is it just the result of being a first timer and developing pep skills?

Can this be fixed in the post pep Bondo stage, or would it be a significant hindrance?

It might be the helmet's design itself, check the model to see if the faceplate is actually connected or not, and as far as being a noob and having mishaps, don't worry, it happens to everyone. If this doesn't help describe the problem more (with pics).

Anyone got an answer to my question. Are the files online for the iron man suit set for someone 6'1'?

That depends on your files, most are scaled for people about 5'9"-5'10" (like all things :wacko ) I definately feel your pain, I'm 6'3" (and reasonably thin), so I know how you feel. All you can do is check the size of each piece THEN find your measurements (google convert mm to inches for a quick way to check size) then you are going to have to find the right way to scale them to you. It's a long hard road, but it's the rite of passage for peppers. For good scaling tutorials look up the 405th.

thanks Seth.. I was hoping I didn't have to go through and re-size every piece. I saw on one youtube tutorial how to collect all the files and re-size them all at once. thanks for your help!

Hello,
I was wondering if its possible to print pepakura with no margins or boarders? I'm printing out VERY large pieces and even when I break them down and divide them, its still way too big for a normal letter paper. So I want to print them in pieces and puzzle them together on a larger paper then cut it out. But seems like pepakura only allows nothing smaller than 5mm margin. Anyone know how to do this?

most printers do not have the ability to do margin-less prints. If you try to print 1 piece over multiple pages, you are going to have some serious gaps.
