The OT stunt lightsaber blades research thread

can you provide a purchase address? I now more and more feel I now use reflective cloth more and more green.....
Looks like a stellar motorized stunt! Sounds like it has a nice and tight mechanism. Not sure what you need though, what are you asking?

I have white 3M 680 Graphic Film on my rotating Obi Wan. The adhesive is pressure activated and very good, it's used on cars and trucks. The black strip is 2/3 at the bottom, just looking at it, so rather large. My motor is slower than yours

3M Scotchlite fabric is on my pipe stunt, the video you complimented :) I used 3M Spray Adhesive to stick it on, and it's wrapped around fully

Both are easily available from ebay and it's against the rules to link to live auctions. It's easy to find.

I have Scotchlite 7610 Tape ready for my Vader Motorized hilt. This, like the fabric, is more accurate to the old blades being silver. It's tape and you can just cut the trapezoid shape and stick it on
3M™ Scotchlite™ 7610 Reflective Tape, 2” Wide, Adhesive Backing (Sold by the Foot)

I'm not sure if we've already done this, or if I've messaged anyone already, the amount of unknowns here make theories come and go in my head.

It was a bitch to get a graflex clamp on my special motorised Obi Stunt. The casts were barely cleaned up, leaving the clamp held together with 2 threads and the clamp is WIDE

Do we have any shots of a wide clamp in ANH? Any at all?

Could be that the V2 was the only one lathed small enough for a clamp. It was almost too small as its seen sliding up over the rings a lot.

basically...Clamp means it's the v2?

Hey Tom. (Sorry I know I have a DM to reply to... I'll do that soon when I get chance) I only noticed this week, as it's the first time I've seen one in person, but genuine vintage clamps (or at least this one) have more circumference than all of my replica ones. So closer gap. I'm not sure if that helps? Are you using a vintage one?

No worries!

I have tried it with a vintage one too, and they are just way too fat. I was able to get the clamp a little tighter, but we're talking a few mm. The clamp on the V3 today was sourced from a stunt graflex, and it had to be countersunk in order to get the lever all the way across. So, it technically can be done... I don't think I've seen a clamp on anything but the V2 until Jedi

The Wired photo of the R2 air-cannon, gag stunt (a casting of the V3) shows that the V3 was cut down on the clamp section by the time of RotJ. If it was ever pressed into service in the previous films---which I think the consensus is that it was---I'm sure it was would've been a conscious choice then. Logically, if it was painted similarly between the two stunts, and both served similar functions; it would make sense that there are corresponding elements for both to somewhat resemble the Hero Obi hilt.

It's not cut by much but it is enough just to fit an altered clamp.

Also, weren't all clamps hand cut up to a certain point? I've heard not all clamps are equal.

You would think then it would have it's own clamp and not have to take one from a bolted graflex stunt!

The V3’s clamp section was machined
I guess what I was asking was if the V2 was the only one with a clamp in ANH. If the V3 had one you'd think it would still have it and not have to "steal one" per se

Especially because of how hard it is to install

There’s a fair amount of us that think that the V3/SS didn’t have a clamp until after ESB.

V3 has the clamp, can’t see wires out the pommel but the black strip on the blade moves.. which makes me believe this sucker spun

Weird that it lost its clamp, and then it was replaced! Unless that clamp with the holes is original to ANH which I doubt

That's a great observation, are there more?

I'm thinking they capped the end with a square of material
