"The Orville". A Seth McFarlane Space Adventure on Fox

And not even as likeable... at least so far. I guess we'll see on that bit.

But.. they spent a whole episode showing us how detrimental is was on salaayans to be off their home world...it's literally the reason Alara went back home and we lost her..so then they just put another in the same situation, just ignoring the danger?

I feel like I could learn to like her more if she didn't have that hairstyle. It's not something I normally even notice, I actually can't remember the last time I noticed a TV characters hair style, but something about hers just irritates me in a very irrational way. The actress seems likable enough. Although I also feel like they must have already written scripts or something otherwise it's odd to have the replacement the same species and so similar.

After Xon was killed in TMP Kirk expressed a desire to another Vulcan as Science Officer...

None of the Fantastic Plastic genre kits are licensed - he had a great series of Star Wars kits which also got hit with a C&D

I spent this weekend catching up on the last four episodes. I bet the Trek top brass are just kicking themselves in the ass for not letting Seth just do a Star Trek. It must be a fun life to know you are the one who turned down something that becomes a success. Like those poor studio saps who turned down Star Wars or the toy companies who turned down the toys.

I watched all the tv Trek (except STD) and I honestly can say I haven't enjoyed a "Trek" as much as this show since Next Generation.

It doesn't spend its time trying to be high and mighty about things. It tells a story, sometimes the story doesn't go the way anyone wants it to, and they're fine with that. It never gets preachy, which you absolutely can't say that about Supergirl for.
..or TNG.
I have been watching them recently and it is amazing how many times the show ends up with a very eloquent lecture

I agree, but I suspect we would have gotten nothing like this if they had, as the biggest problem plaguing actual trek is the division of ownership of the IP. It limits what stories can be told, how much of the canon can be used, etc.

I think the beauty of The Orville is that because it's technically not Trek, they are free from those constraints and as such they can tell these great stories and hit all the Trek notes without worrying about IP ownership issues.

The most recent episode, I think it handled the Android/Human thing pretty well. I think best thing about Isaac is that they are not trying to be a DATA clone with him. Also explaining how robots could conceivably fall in love was an interesting topic.
Agreed- I was expecting a replay of 'In Theory' just taken a bit further along but instead we got a wonderful interplay between two very different beings who were both struggling to find a way to make the relationship work. Isaac shifted from "just gathering data" to seemingly to genuinely care for her in his own way.

It’s hard to not just keep saying it over and over... but this show cannot even be called a parody anymore. It’s TNG if made today with “Firefly” humour.

“Bortis almost crashed the ship cuz of porn”

Only show I look forward to being on.

I also love the fact that they are not afraid of doing something that was not popular. I'm sure a lot of us were hoping there could be some way to save him but that would not hold true to what they have done in the past with tough subjects.

Good episode. But I really do hope they cool it on the Bortus episodes for awhile. He's had what, 3 eps now? I wanna see a bit more variety when they do other character centric episodes. The doctor has had her fair share too imo.

Out of 7 episodes so far, they've had 3 alien-centric episodes, one for each of the alien bridge members. I really wish they'd start to develop a mythology or have an overall arc. As much as I love the show, it has to be going somewhere.

Does it though?
It could just be the periodic adventures of this bunch of people on this particular ship. Seeking out new life an civilisations. Boldly going where no one has gone before.
I'd be ok with that.
