"The Orville". A Seth McFarlane Space Adventure on Fox

I love how the tone of this thread has evolved. In the beginning, the most optimistic posts were still skeptical - and the rest full on bashed it.
Now we are talking about how socially relevant episodes are and how much we like the character development.
Nice!

Now if we can only figure out how to build a model of that ship!

Just started watching, I think my only issue is with Seth Macfarlane himself. I feel like he would have been better as a recurring admiral type character with another actor taking the role of Mercer. It’s not a deal breaker for me but initially it felt a little too much.

And not even as likeable... at least so far. I guess we'll see on that bit.

But.. they spent a whole episode showing us how detrimental is was on salaayans to be off their home world...it's literally the reason Alara went back home and we lost her..so then they just put another in the same situation, just ignoring the danger?

It's the opposite for me. i find him one of the most likeable characters, and i'm glad he's there every episode.

The only reason it was dangerous for Alara is because she was so young. She wasn't, really, fully matured physically, which is why the reduced gravity had such a deleterious effect on her.

I like her character..., and she did help in figuring out how to change the minds of those people who’s lives were governed by whichever astrological sign they were born under , including Kelly & Bortus - speaking of , were they ever reprimanded for injuring/killing those camp guards whilst trying to escape ?
Regarding Alara’s ‘replacement’ (can’t think of her name at the mo’) , perhaps she’s taken up the regiment ( the one initially designed for maintaining Alara’s health once back on the Orville) that’ll keep her healthy too ?

I kind of have the feeling they went with another saylaayan because the scripts had already been pretty much written before Halstan Sage left the show and instead of re-writing the scripts they went with a character which was mostly the same and just had to change a few things here and there. I have no idea if this is true but that was my first impression.
