The Official Boycott Star Wars Bluray thread

Hey Darth, that standee is a perfect metaphor for the characters in the film. :)

Haha, from our certain point of view.

I have to admit even though I am not a fan of the Prequels, seeing any Star Wars promotional items in a theater elicits a Pavlovian response in me; well at first.

How is that face cutout supposed to advertise 3D? Ugh...

or maybe it's Lucas hinting that YOU could be the next change inserted into Star Wars!

Seriously, it cheeses me off how they exploit Maul to advertise this movie. He's barely in it!!! It would be like using Teebo to advertise ROTJ. That should be Sebulba and Watto on that standee.

Maul was the only character that actually worked. He had genuine mystery surrounding him, his scenes were quick to the point, and most importantly, he didn't talk too much.

And in my personal opinion, thanks to these prequels explaining how Anakin became Darth Vader and his stupid redemption at the end of ROTJ, I'm more of a fan of Darth Maul than I am of Vader.

Until they do a prequel of Darth Maul who was a disturbed child who grows up to make the ultimate sacrifice to redeem himself from his terrible past, which was to let Obi-Wan slice him in half when he had plenty of time to block the move to begin with.

I actually wish clone wars would do a flashback episode or two so we could get Qui-gon again (he's awesome), and a Maul origin would be amazing. I'd love if they did the Jango Fett Open Seasons arc too. As they creep up on ROTS, they could do a few tales where people were reminiscing or whatever and give us some of that. That'd rule.

Prequels don't work for Vader, so they won't work for Maul.

Yes, you heard it here first.

THE PEOPLE WANT MORE PREQUELS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew you'd come around eventually.

Well, more of the elements I DID like, in Clone Wars, which I've been enjoying. I also love many of the comics from the PT era. I just thought the movies themselves were pretty badly flawed.

With all the Lucas talk and all the things he changed, I thought I'd breakout the old box set. So I go over to the movies and realize that the original vhs box set is gone (lost in a move) and replaced by the THX digitally remastered VHS set with added scenes and special effects that Lucas had always intended to be in the film.

Yup, he said it way back then.

I felt a little sad now knowing that an original piece of artwork was gone. Anyway, I popped in the remastered version and got a little sadder when I realized I had never seen any of the added scenes. Did I really want to taint my memory of the original?

I opted for yes.
DAMN YOU GEORGE!

Oh, and I won't be buying the bluray. I'm going to get another copy of the black box VHS set.

Speaking of...

Someone's already edited the "Han Shot First" scene for blu-ray. Check it out.

It's still not a 100% accurate recreation of the original (it shouldn't include the brief wide-shot of Han shooting -- should be from looking straight at him, to the table exploding in Greedo's face), but it's definitely an improvement.

This would imply that, eventually, there'll be fan edits of the Blu-Rays, too.

Alas, they'll still be edits of the edits of the 2004 transfers.

Hate to bring this back up, but you really want SW put back together the way it is supposed to look? Check out Harmy's V2 in progress over at OT.com, the work he's done is astounding, and until we get a new transfer of the original print, probably the best alternative to the SEs we'll see. There's still a couple of rough spots where the only available material is the GOUT discs, but overall it's amazing. In addition to better technique, this time the guy has managed to get scans from each shot in the film from an original dye print and is correcting to match. The film hasn't looked this good since '77.
