The new Making of SW book

Since my subscriptions has been deleted I could find the old thread, BUT Wal-mart .com just e-mailed that my copy will be shipping in the next few days.:eek

I gotta get one of those books. I'm just waiting to order it without a wait. Is the price better at Walmart.com than, say, Amazon?

There is a thread in the prop section on the book and one of the scans reveals another photo of the blue striped X-wing..........

When I ordered this book I saw another book on amazon called inside the lucasfilm archives. Its supposed to come with audio CDs etc. No pictures with it yet, but apparently its supposed to come out in November. I can't wait to see whats in it.

Hmm thats it, but it doesn't look like what I hoped it would be...depressing. I don't want to see t-shirts...I want to see models.

Sweet, mine shipped today. If what I saw in the latest si-fi modeler is a taste of what is in the book I'm definitely looking forward to reading it, and looking at the pictures.

Any idea what's on the extra 24 pages in the hardcover vs paperback?

Part of it is a section dealing with character backgrounds. When SW was a hit, they needed Lucas to give some background of expanded universe stuff(although they don't call it that) Lucas then role played a few characters and gave background-nearly all of it has changed since the summer of 77. Leia says she had 2 brothers, one is 4 one is 7. The Falcon was made on the planet Crell. I've just skimmed over this stuff. It begins on page 350. Most of the stuff in this extra section is old storyboards.

Yeah, I took a look through it at my local retailer last night. If all you are interested in are LARGE model photos...... this book will only be of limited use. BUT, if you are interested in the entire process - if you are curious about how a movie like STAR WARS could get made "back then" - this is a fantastic resource.

It covers everything from the immediate post Graffitti time period through the release and aftermath. It includes artwork that I've never seen. It does include a lot of model photos that I hadn't seen before (I think there was only one duplicate with the magazine article in Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller). Detailed notes about the casting, prop design, costuming - the whole thing.

Easily worth the money.

Sorry to change the subject or book title, but has anyone got, or seen

Sculpting a Galaxy: Inside the "Star Wars" Model Shop (Hardcover)
by Lorne Peterson

Just came across is while looking through amazon, and wondered what the pictures were like.

I wanted to get this, but I waited until it popped up in the stores (today). I took the time to sit down and leaf through it earlier today, and then again this evening, but...

I have the same problem with this as I do with "Sculpting a Galaxy". While there seems to be a bit of everything, there just doesn't seem to be enough of any one thing. As an exhaustive account of the creation of the film, it's great. As prop or model reference I can't justify the cost when there's so many great online resources (like here) for free.

Not that I'll have the time to read it any time soon, but maybe I'll put it on my birthday/Christmas wish list (if it's still available by then).
