Limited Run The Most Accurate Game of Thrones Dragon Egg - **RUN STARTED** First Cast! (Page 3)

Re: The Most Accurate Game of Thrones Dragon Egg

Added!

I'm just trying to wait out this northeastern winter storm right now. It's not that I need it to be warmer (I have a corner of the basement I can use instead of my garage) but I just need a day or two where I'm not shoveling all day. :lol

I'll keep you guys updated.

Re: The Most Accurate Game of Thrones Dragon Egg

I would like to be added to the interested list Mr Fox. I would like to order a complete set, in the colors of the in the show. They are going to be a wedding gift for a good friend. He's going to absolutely love these. A few questions I have about the product is how durable are they, how much do you anticipate shipping being, and how long do you anticipate the proccess taking to have orders filled? I am in no way attempting to rush you, I understand quality takes time.

Is there any way they could be purchased painted? or simply in the raw cast colors?

Urethane resin is extremely durable. I've dropped one of my test casts quit a few times and don't notice any damage to it. Any paint or finish on these will be damaged before the egg itself.

...to be completely honest, I had a quick game of catch with one of these fresh out of my first generation mold and that thing is still intact.

As for the shipping. In the US, I'll likely be using Priority Mail so for all three eggs, my gut feeling is that the shipping would come in around $25...but don't quote me on that. They're light but large so it's a hard thing to judge until I box them up and get them quoted. Outside the states, I don't even have a guess. But I'll work to find the best balance of speed and affordability.

My goal is to try to have my master remolded next weekend. After that, I'm just going to move through the list in batches of 5 people at a time or so, so that I don't get overwhelmed.

I wish I had the time to do this, I really do, but I am only offering up casts that will have their base dyed to better match any paint put on them. Luckily, there are plenty of great write-ups on painting casts (BigGeek1972 just did one here about an Iron Man helmet) as well as a number of people who offering painting services (GeneralFrosty comes to mind) if it's not something you want to try your hand at.

Now, just to add something more interesting to this wall of text. Since I didn't have to shovel today, I did some more work smoothing out scratches and fingerprints left in my master. Here it is...and I'm going to go back to work on it with some sandpaper as soon as I press post reply.

Another small update, I just bought a fresh batch of clay to use in the mold-making process, and will be paying Smooth-On a visit this week...one of the advantages of living only 75 minutes away from their factory is getting to pick my stuff up straight from them!

If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Re: The Most Accurate Game of Thrones Dragon Egg

I've been spending my nights filling and sanding, and priming. Tonight I just hit it with an even coat of primer to check it out and it's almost there.

There are just a few tiny spots I still want to fix, (Again, I'm not trying to get it glass smooth, since it should be stone) so I'm hoping to have those all fixed up tomorrow and be ready to start taking deposits on Monday to cover some of the cost of molding this thing.

Here's where it stands:

Re: The Most Accurate Game of Thrones Dragon Egg

I love the progress...let us know when to send ya some cash :)
Well I'm not sure anyone but me would notice the progress since last night since it's mostly been smoothing, filling, priming, sanding, priming, sanding, priming...you get the picture.

So just so you don't go without an update, here's a quick video look at the 200+ individually sculpted scales just so you have a better sense of what this thing looks like.

Still on schedule to be taking deposits by Monday.

Let me know if there are any questions. Also, please note: once I take deposits I'll no longer be offering the $75 price tag. So if you want to get in, now's the time to get in.

Re: The Most Accurate Game of Thrones Dragon Egg - Last Chance for Discounted Price!

Would it be ok if I changed from just 1 black egg to 3 eggs (black, green, and white)?

That's not a problem. I'll update the interest list to reflect that.

When I confirm people's interest and ask for deposits, there will be another chance to confirm or change orders. Just in case anyone else wants more or fewer eggs.

Thanks Nick! Really looking forward to these! Looking great so far. :)

Re: The Most Accurate Game of Thrones Dragon Egg - Last Chance for Discounted Price!

Just an update, after my hard drive just decided to up and become fatally corrupted yesterday, I spent today getting my computer back in shape after I had to wipe it to fix the problem. So, that's the main reason why I didn't get PMs out about confirming slots. I should have everything technology-wise back up to speed by tomorrow though. (Thankfully my backups were fairly recent) So expect the PM then!

Didn't want to keep you guys in the dark.

Re: The Most Accurate Game of Thrones Dragon Egg - Last Chance for Discounted Price!

Just sent out a PM to the first 10 slots on the list for deposits.

To everyone else on the list, I will be asking for deposits from you one-by-one as I start to clear the first 10 on the list. So keep an eye on your inboxes!

I can't tell you how excited I am to finally be at this point.

Here's a quick update. Now that the weather is better, this is how I spent my day:

(Sorry for the Popeye face, but to get the shot I had to aim directly at the sun...and it was bright)

That's right I picked up my stuff direct from Smooth-On HQ. I also got the incredible opportunity to meet @Beaker there. Great company, and very cool guy. Honestly, if anyone ever has the chance to pick up their rubber directly from them, I highly recommend it. Their entire crew there is amazing to deal with. (And helped prevent me from being run over by a forklift :lol)

I'm now fully stocked on rubber and resin, so we're moving right ahead.

Can I be added to the list for 1 white egg please?

You bet! I'll add you to the list right now. Good timing, because the moment the first batch of resin is poured in, the price goes up!

Can't wait!

Me neither! Here's a little something to whet your whistle:

Since then, I've trimmed the flange a bit. Tomorrow I'm putting the mother mold on that half, then flipping the whole thing over.

If anyone is on Instagram, you can follow my progress with the hashtag #OperationEggsellence. I'm literally posting pictures live as I hit milestones. (Basically anytime I can take my gloves off and won't get rubber on my phone)

UPDATE!

Got the mold finished and cast up the first test egg in it. This egg was just to clear out some primer particles that came off my master during molding, but I figured why not make a whole egg anyway. It's a tad thin, (Because it was just to clean the mold anyway) but all of your eggs will be much more robust.

Take a look.

Test cast (white) next to the master.

I'll start working through your orders tomorrow.
