The Mandalorian: DarkSaber reference thread

I never dug the rectangular hilt.

Unrelated story: A long time ago, like 15+ years ago, I was having a discussion with my older brother about Lightsabers (he's also a huge SW and Sci-fi fan). We were waxing philosophical about the history of the Jedi and the history of lightsabers and we started talking about the 'first' lightsaber, the original Jedi lightsaber. Now, this was way before the proto-saber was created, so we were just riffing on our own ideas.

My brothers idea for the 'first' Jedi lightsaber was one shaped like the monolith from 2001 but in lightsaber dimensions. Flat black, rectangular with rounded corners, flat sides, and the size would be like 11 inches tall, 1.25 inches wide, 3/4 inch thick. Totally smooth, no buttons, no knobs, just an opening on the top for the blade to come out. Because there are no outside buttons, the Jedi uses the force to turn it on and off. He said it would fit in holster and not have a clip or ring to hang from the belt.

I said his lightsaber sounds boring and would look like a TV remote control with no buttons. His logic was it was the least saber a Jedi needed, the bare minimum of a lightsaber. Fancy buttons, grips, activation boxes, and stacked rings would just be personality and vanity, against what a Jedi should be.

I've ALWAYS thought lightsaber controls should be internal and that you have to use the force to turn it on!

..

New episode of Gallery focuses on the cast, no Darksaber. Good episode though.

Hopefully 1 episode will be devoted to props and puppets

Oh well. I'm kind of guessing the Moff and the Saber will be left till the end. Just because of chronological order of appearance. :(

Went back and watched all the various appearances of the Darksaber...

Am I the only dummy that forgot Jon Favreu voiced Pre Visla, the guy who had the Darksaber (and descendant of its creator) in CW until Maul takes it?

I've never watched the show but every time I do image searches that is mentioned on just about every site.

And yes I do make or collect props from shows I've never watched or hated because I like the prop. :p

They show it briefly, but it’s in hand. Not much to see. The episode was really about the screen technology.

like teecrooz said, not much to see

It has 3 red markers which I believe are just for tracking purposes...

That dead on side profile shot is actually great fir taking measurements.

Really we just need a good look at the grip section now.

Between this thing and Rey's saber, I hope more lightsaber props in productions to come have lights build into them.

Newest episode of Gallery talks about practical effects, models, animatronics and props. Props segment is very short and only focuses on the blasters.

Bummer, but that said, this series is great. It reminds me of all the making up SW featurettes from the OT. Those are what got me into SW.

I mostly write horror movies for work and people always ask what my entry point was expecting me to give a movie title, when actually it was the Making of Thriller. Not Thriller itself, but the making of that was all about the prosthetics and effects.
