In the new description for the Lightsaber book coming out in October, there's a blurb about it having details for a 'new, never before seen' type of saber from The High Republic, & also details about the Darksaber.

I know it's a few months away, but it'll probably be the best official reference we get for a while.

Just had a thought about that lightsaber book...

I'm thinking it may end up getting pushed back several months. The description makes a big deal about it having info on the never before seen saber from The High Republic series. Well, those first 2 books were due in August & September, but have been pushed back to January & February of 2021. If the saber info has any plot points, I doubt they'll want it leaked.

my connection wasn't lying....

there is actually a really clear scene with Esposito leaving the tie fighter, you can see the handle much better, which looks like it even has the same pommel design as both the CW and Rebels. i just can't seem to find it with out re watching the whole thing... looking for it now

im trying to decided if those a 3d print lines under the hand guard...

love the stunt one (non electronics) favreau is holding as well

so, take this with a grain of salt, i am running on 3 hours of sleep, my body is over taxed with anxiety, so i may not be thinking clearly... but things ive noticed

the hand guard has a round edge on it
like others have stated the hilt itself looks oval shape
the ribbed sections are very pronounced

but what catches my eye is the pommel... i dont know if we are seeing light reflection, but is there a hole here, and this acts like a hanger for a belt?

Man... I was really hoping for more of a squared look with less rounded edges, but I'm not gonna hate on it. The tsuba looks weird to me, having the same profile, but then being more rounded IRL, but I think they covered that by stating that the animated versions of things were considered stylized. It's just, I think, the first time I can remember of something created as 'stylized', but then redesigned to say, "No... This is actually what it looks like.".

Again, not hating, but just mulling it over out loud.

I’m glad they did their own version and didn’t do a exact copy of the clone wars or rebels, I’m so excited for this damn thing.

I’ve had a real sh7ty week this week, woke up at 3am this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep, road my bike like I do every morning until I realized

“Wait a minute it’s Friday!”

When I saw the intro to the dark saber I was struck with complete joy..

Sitting as close as I can to my 42” tv to the point my eyes hurt in my dark windowless basement..

Amazing how powerful Star Wars can be to me.. and this right here proves it..

The word for a Japanese sword grip is tsuka. A tsuba is the handguard.

That's what I was referring to. The bottom of it is rounded, & I'm so used to seeing it with hard corners.

Yeah, I think you're on the right track there. It's mostly covered by his index finger, but I think in the shot where the guy is shaking the battery out of the pommel, there's a little divot that looks like it's probably the hole you pointed out.

From what I can see, I think it looks way better than in CW or Rebels. I 100% agree with the decision to reverse engineer the "stylization" (de-stylize?) of the animated ones into a real life one rather than making it match one of those.

And I'll repeat what I said before, I hope any new lightsaber designs going forward will incorporate onboard lighting. It looks awesome.

Didn’t know this thread existed until I saw it in a Mandalorian cosplay group, but glad to see that there’s others interested in making the Darksaber as well!

Pretty much all the references I’ve gathered have already been posted in here (and in much better quality) so sadly I don’t have much I can contribute. However it definitely takes more after the Rebels version more than the CW Darksaber. But based off the shots from the newest episodes I’m pretty sure they painted it the same if not similarly to the Beskar Armor, with Alumaluster cause the colors look pretty close to me!
