The length of 3' ISD

Hi buddies:)

I estimated the length of 3’ ISD in order to make the frame as follow.
The length and wide are 910mm X 460mm based on Lucas museum book which is published from Japan.
I think that the length in the book is wrong.
Several months ago, Ringa said the length of ISD is about 4feet.
i.e.) 4feet = 4 x 304.8mm (= 1feet) = 1219.2mm

I tried to prove above story using Tamiya 1/35 8rad.
Used part of 8rad in ISD is exactly 152mm as below pic.

Also, the length of ISD is similar to 8 x used part of 8rad.

i.e.) 8 x 152mm = 1216mm
From above result, I found the length of ISD is nearly 4feet.

You would be about right CK, with the Chronicles and other pics of the frame coming in at around 3ft, the skin overlays for the hull would indeed come out at the 4ft mark give or take.
I think there are many here that have seen her in the flesh that could give a rough verfication, but thats a good way of getting a bead on the length using the 8rad chassis :)

I recently read 38". I think it was from a quote from one of the original ILM modelers in the new Sci Fi & fantasy journal.

I think it's even bigger. I have not yet had a chance to "prove" this theory by mapping out the brim trench parts, but I will be doing that in the near future. So far, I did scale my own plans with the known parts I have like the L'Eggs eggs for the engines and it looks to be much bigger than most people think.

Don't forget when scaling these things that there will be some degree of error depending on how close the camera was to the object being photographed.

Yep! I devoted quite a bit of space to that particular subject in my book (one of the first times anyone has discussed things like correcting for perspective distortion in images used as templates for making blueprints).

The only truly accurate way to deduct measurements for objects like these without having access to them is to get the original parts used for detailing and carefully lay them out until a close match is achieved. It still won't be 100% exact, but should be close enough. :)

Yeah, I've been working on one of these, too (I run hot-and-cold on the project, but I'm definitely still working on it, Charles!). I'm having a hard time pinning down the exact length, but it is definitely significantly more than 3', probably closer to 4'. At this point, I feel like I've mapped out the superstructure pretty well using known kit parts for reference, but I haven't been able to reconcile my superstructure dimensions with the main hull. I want to try lining up all of the brim trench detail pieces I have, and backing into the hull length that way, but I haven't gotten around to it...
