The First Prop you ever made.

5 years old. Busted white LLoyds alarm clock with 3 red painted toilet paper tubes and wires coming out from them into the clock. My dad was so proud lol.

While not nearly as interesting or good as some people, my first prop was a custom built lightsaber from a flash-handle (S. Mendelsohn).

I think, if I'm remembering correctly, the first prop I ever made was in 1997 and was technically a paper prop. This was also before I even knew "prop making" was a thing.

My 6th grade class was putting on a play of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which seemed to be more based on the Gene Wilder version, after reading the book a few years later.

Anyway, even though the teacher had cast me as Mr. Salt, I was getting irritated by the incompetence of the "stage crew", and took it upon myself to design a Willy Wonka bar wrapper, and wrap it around a Hershey bar. It looked pretty legit for something a 6th grader made with printer paper and some colored pencils.

Oh and I also drew up the design for Wonkatania, but wasn't allowed to actually make it because I was "taking work away from the stage crew". Pft.

When I was little, I was a prop making machine. I made lightsabers, the whole armory from Men in Black, the pistols from the Lost in Space movie, multiple proton packs, and a pretty dang awesome Rocketeer jetpack and helmet set. Unfortunately, I have pictures of none of these, what I do have is a picture of one of my earlier prop endeavors, and that is a replica of the original Sliders timer, made from cardboard and scotch tape. Not bad for a 7 or 8 year old, if I do say so myself.

I think I commented earlier in this thread. My first prop was Jack Sparrow's compass. I didn't have photos before but I got some.

It was made from matte board, based on these instructions, which I believe were created by RPF member StudioCreations.

The dome is a plastic easter egg painted green (the lid looked like it might have been reflective green in some promo shots back then, and it wasn't shown clearly enough in the movie to know for sure).

Quality stuff, huh?

My HND special effects final project....way back in 1995 done with Photoshop on a Powermac.....I scratch built R2 and the waterfall and then morphed it all together to make the final movie poster....I then paid a shed load of cash at the time to have it Dyesublimination printed to a movie sized print....even got the thing signed by Kenny Baker too!

So many awesome first props. I feel inadequate with mine XD

Ramona Flowers hammer. Built it from EVA foam, a broom handle, mouthwash cap, shaving cream cap, a large Wendy's cup, a string, Christmas bell, and then various spray paints.

I build this waaaaay back in 2000. When I was getting started with props, I knew I wanted a Proton Pack. What kid didn't want one? It was freaking dangerous looking! Well, before I ventured out into the world of building nuclear accelerators, I started with an original project.

This was my Ectoplasmic Destabilizer Pistol. At the time, I was still slightly in a Men In Black kick in where I wanted to shoot ghost with a pistol. I donno, it just sounded cool at the time. So I did the design myself. When it came to building the thing, I bought myself an NES Zapper from the local GameStop (when they still had them) filled a coke can with expanding foam, snagged a Radio Shack project box, and after scavenging a few parts from the trash and the garage, I got to work.

It wasn't until much later that I revamped the design and built a Mk. II:

Now, I know this is a replica website, but you did say "First Prop" not "First Prop Replica." Kind of a loophole on this one, but hey everyone needed a place to start, why not go easy and start with an original design first? Am I right?

I haven't posted this in a LONG time. These are the only pics I have and I have no idea why they're so small. Anyway it was supposed to be Corran Horn's lightsaber he built in the novel I, Jedi. He builds an emergency lightsaber out of random junk including the handle off of a speederbike. I used an old survival knife handle, a piece of aluminum tube, one of those plastic thingies that they tie toys into the package with (side of control box), and the grip is pieces of old sandals... because it was the only lightsaber grip thing around. :lol

Not sure if this counts or not...I have a Man-Cave that's on the second floor of my garage. Major Disney's Nautilus-Theming...but other stuff as well. This sign seemed appropriate at the bottom of the steps.
