The Dark Knight Rises (Post-release)

On a completely unrelated topic, I had a general question about Batman's "voice". You know what I'm talking about.. the gravelly, I'm-gonna-kick-your-ass voice.

I know why he uses it, that's always been obvious, so that people don't recognize his voice. But, that raises the question:

Why does he continue to use the voice when he's around people who know who he is? I don't think there's any examples in the first film, but in the second film he's alone with Fox and still uses the voice. In this one, he's with Blake and later Selina after she finds out, and he's still using it. Hell, at one point, he's completely alone and he mumbles to himself, still using that voice.

Just seems kind of pointless. I've always noticed that sort of thing in the other films. Keaton and Kilmer would both slip into their normal "Wayne voice" when they were alone or with people they knew (I always thought it was kind of neat when they did, too). Clooney never had a Batman voice to begin with, so that's moot. But then Bale never drops Batman voice as long as the cowl is on his head, regardless of who's around.

Watched Batman Begins after TDKR--

Regarding Bale's Batvoice: I LOVED his voice during the scene when Bruce confronts Gordon in his office. 'Now we're two.....' Too bad he didn't continue like that

Also wondering why no one seemed to wonder why Bruce died at the same time as Batman.

I assumed that it was because a lot of citizens of Gotham died in that time frame and Bruce was imprisoned right at the beginning of Bane's takeover so he had already been missing.

I've read comments on other forums in which people theorized the "Bat Voice" was caused by some mechanism in the cowl that altered his natural voice, and that he had no control over it. I don't buy it myself, but if that were the case it would be a reasonable explanation. Other than that, I can only imagine that it's perhaps part of his personal psychology, i.e. this is the way I talk when I'm Batman, and that's that.

The moment you referred to when he's completely alone and talking to himself--if there was ever a moment for him to use his normal voice while wearing the Batsuit, that would have been it.

One thing I noticed on a second viewing is that after he is betrayed and stabbed he goes back to the Bruce voice, still wearing the batsuit.

Also wondering why no one seemed to wonder why Bruce died at the same time as Batman. Sure, Blake and Gordon knew, but no one else did. I'm kind of surprised that Gordon never figured it out in all that time. But, like he said at the end, it didn't matter to him who Batman was other than just Batman. Watching the first teaser trailer with Gordon in the hospital talking about "We were in this together", I assumed that he was just talking to Bruce, I didn't realize that Bruce had a mask on in that scene.

Remember, a lot of Gotham's wealthy elite were killed during the post Bane takeover of the city. It's reasonable to assume most thought Bruce Wayne was one of the many killed.

Sounds reasonable.
And he pops up on the other side of the world
in public having fled from Gotham.
That would suit the public view of him woudn't it?
Fleeing to safety by leaving the country?

Bottomline he can't stay dead in the public's eye
because he is appearing in public.

But Bane's baddies were driving around in Batmobiles with camo paintjobs, and the fact they were stolen from Wayne Industries surely would get out. A Batman/Wayne connection would at least be suspected.

Until Batman shows up again while Wayne is still halfway around the world...

I was assuming they were talking about the fallout after the whole thing was done. I didn't really think anyone would be pointing fingers during the events.

That's the whole point of the "clean slate" program too, he and selina used it to disappear totally. And showing up in a café in Florence, Italy probably won't blow he new identity, believe if today I saw a real american billionaire siting in a café here in Brussels, as long as he would keep a low profile (wearing casual clothes, not throwing out cash through the window etc...) I wouldn't know who he is, that he's a billionaire nor would I pay any attention to him. In the movie universe, Bruce Wayne is only a famous billionaire known in Gotham and most likely a good part of the US, but once you cross the ocean, he's no movie star or something, so nobody here would notice. As long as he keeps a low profile that is. Especially if nobody is looking for him by the way.

They probably dont make a habit of just chillin out in public places - he probably new the place Alfred had spoke of and went there purely to be seen by him and let him know that "he'd made it".

Plus, for someone who had not been seen in public for 8 years then have his "return" overshadowed by a city-wide nuclear terrorist attack, he's probably not going to stand out very much to people in a foreign country.
