THE CONAN THAT COULD HAVE BEEN

Amazing how movies about Men - and I'm talking Alpha Male men just don't happen anymore. I know Stallone busts his rump to get his made, but every time something comes up that's just too darn manly they scale it down and make him young or unsure coupled up with a female lead who is "just as tough" as the lead. I'll be glad when the 80's does a full circle and we get stuff like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon again.

Yeah, the guy from Sin City was disgusting enough to look at once. Jason looks the part, this is just one interpretation and honestly he looks like he's constipated to me.

He doesn't look anything like Conan the Barbarian.

I agree.
Frazetta's version of Conan is the most iconic recognized image of the character.
Conan isn't supposed to be a good looking pretty boy.
He's supposed to be a weathered and scarred warrior who's countless battles can be seen in his appearance.

Not to mention chest hair. Everybody portrays him as a waxed surfer boy.

Frazetta's version might be considered "the best" but I just gotta say a movie that would have an actor wearing a prosthetic face would be right up there with Captain America's rubber ears in the '91 Salinger film. It may look cool as a photo but it wouldn't have looked so cool "live."

None of that is to say they couldn't have found somebody more grizzled than Momoa... I'm reserving judgement until I see this thing in action myself.

What I like is it conveys a lost time, another race long gone... Cimmerian!
He does not look like someone walking down the street today.
Arnold even accomplished that to an extent, he looked a bit strange to us back in 82.
Granted this is a exploration in prosthetics and makeup and I've no idea how well it would translate over to film. It is also an older Conan, he is worn, a younger version would be less so of course.
But there is no mistaking who it is. He just needs the piercing blue eyes. If it has erred into the far side of the spectrum of the characters interpretation then I would prefer they err that direction everytime then soften him for the masses. Might as well just have that terrible TV show come back from the nineties.

And painting (digital or otherwise). On one of the lower layers of that Photoshop file there might be a picture of a guy in makeup, but that final image is a friggin' painting.

Still cool, don't get me wrong! It's a detail from proposed movie poster art, after all.

I'll certainly grant that Momoa looks like a "pretty boy" Conan but, y'know, all we've seen are photos. There's a big difference between seeing the final result and a couple of snapshots.

Remember that original spy photo of Iron Man? He was totally dumpy looking in that stunt costume yet the movie turned out to be excellent.

To each his own but judging a film by a couple of early snapshots seems more than a little hasty to me. At least wait until the trailer hits so you can see some actual footage of the context of the shot.

Heck, look at Thor. I thought the costumes were completely weird until I saw it in context of the trailer footage which obviously put it into a bit more of a Kirby inspired style.

Why does the girl have a hysterectomy scar?
Based on the location, I'd guess it's an appendectomy scar. I'd also guess the model had a similar scar, and the artist probably thought, "A woman living in this environment would probably have some scars; I'll just leave it."
