The Book of Eli machete pattern - FREE

I almost wet my pants when I saw that, Fuelish...you are a seriously talented guy! :cool

Good eye!

Yes...very! Thanks for catching that, Balaram....:thumbsup
Oh, and be sure to post some pics of your blade when you get it going!

I will incorporate the larger center hole into a new revision later this week; I'm just waiting to see if any more feedback comes in, or more detailed and/or hi-rez reference images surface, before I make the change....:thumbsup

I would be able to make the sheath for this machete with relative ease.

I also want one of the machetes. If any of you metal workers want to work something out for a sheath/machete type barter just let me know.

I can make the sheath from the specs provided for the blade. The difference will be in the sizing of the shoulder straps to each individual. Measurements will have to be provided.

I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with, Wade...:cool

Speaking of sheathes/scabbards: The movie version looks pretty sweet (I'm thinking about making a pattern for that, too), but I was wondering how he managed to keep a blade of that weight strung upside down without falling out while walking (or, doing anything else, for that matter)....I don't recall seeing Eli flip a thumb loop or the like, but he may very well have done so, prior to combat....

I would use a locking snap strap to hold the weapon in the sheath for inverted carry. I've done it before with pistols and knives.

I haven't actually seen this movie yet, and screen caps are still rare, so I haven't had a good look at the rig. I love the machete. I'm a huge fan of the shorter, mele type blades (i.e. Spartan, wakizashi, etc.). Once I have a good look at the rig on film I should be able to come up with something good.

I might be up for a sheath trade, but I would want to finish a blade and make sure I am satisfied with it first.

Also, Drstranglove says it looks like 550 cord, but I don't see the texture of the outer weave(In the prop pictures above)
It really looks like leather to me. I plan to make the scales, finish the... finish, and wrap the grip this Wed. but I want to have the right look. What do you guys think?

Here's a couple of crappy screen grabs and a promo pic, showing the rig hanging behind Eli's back...

Yea the cord looks more like wax coated leather. Tandy used to carry it for wrapping spears and staffs. I'll run in and see if they still carry it.

Loved this movie soooo much. Had to see it twice. Cant wait to start piecing together all the great props from it. :thumbsup

Agreed. The chord on the handle looks to me like round leather lace. I believe Tandy has it in stock still. Or, you can order it online from eleatherworks.com or similar. If you have a hard time finding it let me know. I have many different leather suppliers locally and online for those types of things.

I can't see a snap or anything like that on the screen cap. I too am wondering how the blade stays put with now retaining snap or strap of some kind. Perhaps the shape of the blade is curved enough to lock it in at an straight angle and allow it to be pulled out at an angle? Not very secure if you ask me.

Either way, I can definitely make this scabbard and would love to try it out. Can't wait to see what else you guys come up with for the blade!

Good info. Believe it or not we still have a Tandy(Stereos and leather?) near by and I am going to run down there tomorrow and check it out. I also have my hopes up that my wife take a crack at the "Book". She has bought some nice buttery leather and is reading some bindery tutorials.

Be sure to start w new thread on that book project, fuel.....:thumbsup

And, I've got my son scoping out some steel plate for my rendition of the machete...gonna give it a shot this weekend....:cool

I absolutely loved this flick! Probably one of my favorite movies of all time.

Thanks for the machete pattern Ghostsoldier!

Can't wait to get started on mine.

No problem....:cool

I made the correction to the center hole size, and also thickened the lineweight of the blade pattern for ease of transferring, and then moved the new V.2.1 link to the first thread....:thumbsup

Alpha D Unit, I have located the Tandy product called Tejas Round Lace, 2mm size, at 25 yards for about 20 bucks. Is this the wax coated cord you refer to?

I reckon the sheath may have some wet-moulding to it - or possible a liner of some sort

I make quite a lot of sheaths & it's quite easy to design such features into them where no extra straps or stuff is present that can get in the way

One thing I noticed about the use of the machete, after watching the bootleg cam I downloaded, is that during the fight scene in the bar, there is a noticeable "schwiiing" sound of steel against something hard, when Eli pulls it out.

You can see it here in the "Thorns and Thistles" (#12) clip...

Thanks, one questions: do we see the serrated version in a pdf and dwg too?

Yen,
Since the serrated versions were never seen on-screen (most likely were used for stunt practice, long-distance, non-detailed shots, or the like), I chose to replicate the oft-seen "hero" versions in my patterns. I suppose the serrations could be added by an enterprising crafter....:cool

Not seen the movie yet, so the link to the clip was great

It MAY have been an edited/added sound, but its common to get that sort of noise from longer bladed edged weapons even from plain leather sheaths & scabbards - something like would happen if you hit a tunig fork - it's just blade resonance or something (no doubt a more technically minded user will explain more about it)

I have made machete scabbards where this sort of noise has also been heard - though I still like the initial idea - it MAY be an added special effect

Do you have v2.1 in dwg file? I could take this to my old workplace and have them run it on the burny table.

I haven't seen the flick yet, so would you guys recommend carbon steel or stainless? I'm going to go with 3/16 thickness and maybe feather it a bit towards the tip.
