The Book of Eli machete pattern - FREE

Do you have v2.1 in dwg file? I could take this to my old workplace and have them run it on the burny table.

I haven't seen the flick yet, so would you guys recommend carbon steel or stainless? I'm going to go with 3/16 thickness and maybe feather it a bit towards the tip.

TDF...I added the link to the DWG in the first post....:thumbsup (one or more of the deco fonts might not display correctly for you, if they are not in your PC's Windows Font folder....it will be substituted with simplex).

I'm going with carbon on mine (because I have a ton of it lying around), but stainless would look equally awesome IMHO...

Now that we have a pattern for the machete, has anyone made an actual replica in a good quality steel yet?

The Tejas Round Lace is really close but its not what was used.. The premier props photos of the stunt knife, show a secondary wrap that encases the cord.

Good find!

In this pic, the main cord almost looks like the Tandy 3-strand sinew cord, at 4 mm wide, plus some black thread to secure the pommel end-? Could be just another variation used for the non-close-up version tho ?

I didon't know the name of the type of leather.. But its a wrapped type cord with a thin outer layer that is twisted on around . There are pics of the outer wrappings coming off to reveal something that looks like cord underneath it. The black string looks like non waxed Macramé line.

Here is the Tandy product. I don't have any to play with yet, but sinew generally wraps pretty flat, at least in my experience with the single strand, non-braided stuff--doesn't seem it would have that rounded, thick look either. I think you are right, it is something different from the 2 mm round leather cord. It almost looks like a type of twine we once used in a hay baling machine!

Yep

Looks fantastic.. I think you should bring the grind up below the holes for the full length of the blade. That will really finish it off

Ghostsoldier, just grabbed the dwg files for 2.1 hanks very much. I'm going to see about getting one cut in 3/16 stainless. I know they engineer at the shop will want one too though. So I may be making him one in exchange for him pushing the prints through to the cutting table.

If you can get a price id love to have a blank

Please add me to that list, after Ghostsoldier, your engineer, and Bowelrock :)

Sure thing guys, once he puts the file into the cutting table computer, cutting 10 is as easy as cutting 1. I'll see what I can get for pricing. Not sure what the rate is on 3/16 SS at the moment... But I know we could cut these from scrap cut offs at the shop which might help the costs.

Shipping might be costly though. Still.. I'll run off 1 of em and pack it up and get a shipping estimate to give you guys an idea.

Most excellent ;) Yeah shouldn't be that expensive. Maybe at most $50 a blade +shipping.. Scraps would be the best way to go! I have scored nice pieces of copper, brass, and SS for my Freddy gloves at times costing less than buying a new sheet with less metal content..

The blade will have the 5 holes correct?

Hi Dan...Great to see you again :)

I probably want in on these too if you do get them made up.

Look at that your getting a run together and you didn't even know it lol... Watch for a thread in the junkyard soon lmao.

Hey Bill! Glad to be back around. I keep vanishing but always find my way home..

As or the blade, yeah I'll be using the 2.1 templates. So 5 holes with the center hole larger than the others. I might just get the hole centers marked on the table and drill them afterwards to get a cleaner hole.

I'll post up some info when I get the details.
I'm going to try to get to the shop today to see what they can do.

EDIT- Just looked outside and it's snowing like a mother! So this may have to wait till tomorrow.

I would be able to make the sheath for this machete with relative ease.

I also want one of the machetes. If any of you metal workers want to work something out for a sheath/machete type barter just let me know.

I can make the sheath from the specs provided for the blade. The difference will be in the sizing of the shoulder straps to each individual. Measurements will have to be provided.

W.E.

I have high definition plasma machine and a sheet of 1/8" titanium...certainly interested in sheath trade!!!!!

Oh yes, that is a good way to get some initial bulk, then a few random wraps on top to keep it looking a bit ratty. I'm going to look over some baling twine today--might be a long shot, but I know I have seen that exact pattern twine/cord before.
