The Book of Boba Fett

Calling the old movies into question is moot, they were made as they were.

In that same token there’s no reason not to take action to open the gates wider as they make more of the franchise.

It doesn’t have to reflect poorly on the old films that the new properties look through a different lens.

For myself, I am excited. My feels are thus:

1) I like Favereau's story-telling. Not just in Manadalorian, but in other movies he's made.

2) I really like Ming-na Wen and would happily watch her read the phone book as long as it cut to a fight scene every so often.

3) I come out of the Star Trek fandom, so I'm used to the idea that new movies or TV shows are going to ignore older novels and comics.

4) On a broader social level, I really like that the bad-ass protagonists are being played by persons of colour, and the sexy-stereotype alien (the Twi'lek) is being played by a euro-american. That's an historical problem with Star Wars and I'm happy they're tackling it in the newer media.

5) My covid-bubble-friend has Disney+ so it's an excuse to go visit once a week.

6) And last, I very much doubt we've actually seen enough in the two short trailers to really know what this story's going to be about.

So, yeah, very much looking forward to this!
For me, I like good story telling, good acting and good continuity...they all go hand in hand. I love Temuera Morrison because he's great at what he DOES...Actor. He's believable and intruguing to me. What ever his background, his ethnicity, etc. is makes No difference to me whatsoever or any other actors or actresses for that matter. The fact that in modern times there is such a focus on that and the need to infuse socio politics into everything detracts from what it should be about...The Story. Every Story book has covers...who cares what the cover looks like, i want the heart of the book(the pages in between) to be great...we all should want that. Just like with a person. There exterior does not matter...i want to know the persons heart...that's what matters...atleast to me. I grew up watching Star Trek as well..reruns of the old, the next generation and finally, Deep Space Nine(my personal favorite). Avery Brooks(Commander Sisko) is my favorite actor and character in the Star Trek universe. He had the lead role. The fact that he is black has nothing to do with it at all and I'm white anyways(who cares, right?) It was his acting...his stage presence...his command and character that he portrayed that made me say, "I would follow that man into battle". He was like Optimus Prime with a passionate booming voice but gentle confidence and compassionate. I loved the story line, especially between him and his son after his wife died...it hit my heart!! Star Wars hit my heart personally because i grew up not knowing who my father was. Was he good or was he evil? If i ever got to see him face to face would i like the person he is? I was Luke wanting to explore the galaxy like many of us. Many out there have a different reason for connecting to Star Wars. I know we all like different things and such but most of us want a great story that hits the heart, characters that we can relate to(hopefully not just because of what they look like or ethnicity the actor is but who they are...their person). BTW, i agree with most of your list, it was just Number 3 and 4 that stirred me up, and please don't think this is an attack. Star Wars is a book with many chapters within it's covers. I've read many books like many of you that have had chapters transport you to another storyline within the main frame of the story itself. I can understand why people get irritated when it makes no sense to the main story line...like why is it even neccessary? This, however is not the fairest comparison. Why? because it's one thing that a story within a story may not make sense, but the fact that it doesn't even fit into the time continuum is another issue. So let's make it fit and rewrite it? Then you have to go back and rewrite the main storyline to make everything work and that's what drives people crazy. If it's good already, just leave it alone. if it's terrible, leave it alone...it is what it is. Anything that you add to it to try to "fix" it just makes it worse.(like sowing a new piece of cloth into an old garment) The tear will just get worse. I was perfectly fine with Han shot first. why change that? it was great!!! The fact that Lucas left out any back story to Boba Fett is what led to him being so cool and mysterious in the first place. That allows people to use their imaginations. The fact that we always seem to have to fill in every gap with more answers just ends up creating more questions it seems. Leaving questions is fine but not questions that contradict a logical continuity. It's great to keep the money rolling in but it's terrible for the story. Up until The Force Awakens, our last memory on screen was Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker seeing the force ghosts of his mentors and father left your imagination saying, " I wonder what adventures Luke will have next and will his father Anakin actually speak with Luke and train him to be a Master? What other evil may be out there? As a boy, i was ok with that. I was ok with Boba dying in the Sarlacc Pit even though i never liked how he got in there but just accepted it. Now i'm left saying as an adult.." Why now does my lasting memory have to be Luke dying the way he did and passing the torch to Rey? And no, it's not because she is a woman, I happen to like Daisy Ridley as an actress and i will say this here. She is one of, if not, the best actress/actors in the Star Wars universe. She nailed her part. She's wonderful. I absolutely hated her story line in the continuity of Star Wars as a whole. Thank God for the Mandalorian and yeah, i'll take getting Boba back now that you've forever ruined the character of Luke in our minds. Thank you for giving us Mando Luke atleast. Am i in the minority here? Maybe, but i doubt it. Why does it have to be this way now? Because of a lack of continuity. I can't blame the people in charge now even though i want to. I can only point my finger at one person and that unfortunately, is the very person who gave us this great fictional universe we have fallen in love with to begin with so i have 3 fingers pointing back at myself. How did the "Band" never get back together again in atleast 1 scene? It really ticked me off that after all these years between episode 6 and 7, they made you wait til the end of the movie to introduce Luke, then begin the next one having him toss his fathers lightsaber over his back like it meant nothing...ooh it was unexpected...so what, it was stupid storytelling. It's ironic i find myself trying to fill the gap left in my heart with Mandalorian and now Book of Boba, the very gap i previously said would just create more questions than answers. Perhaps, i should have closed the book a long time ago...but they're so good at dangling that carrot...lol. I'll watch Book of Boba...I just really hope it's a great "Story"...nothing more, nothing less.

I think there is a balancing to be carried out when creating these properties. There absolutely is merit in giving people of XYZ social/racial/upbringing someone who looks like them or shares their story and I think an affirmative approach to it is fine. Inversely there will be times where a story is told that genuinely involved only straight white men, and that’s okay too.

Star Wars is myth made accessible. It’s every hero’s story, it has enjoyed decades of mass appeal. If having a character that physically reflects them is what gets an otherwise disinterest party interested in that franchise or genre stories as a whole then I say good for them.

Irrespective of all of that the story does have to be good, and that’s something that I would argue the ST isn’t. I love the cast and characters, I do like that there are new faces and viewpoints in SW, I just wish they’d had more to do.

Whaddaya mean "flashback"? He's closer to Boba's age in canon than Tem is. Dan's 34. Boba's ~40-42. Tem's almost 61. Men ten to look pretty same-ish through their 30s and into their 40s -- especially if they spend most of their time in a helmet and out of the sun. Tend to look more different between 40 and 60 as age starts to have an impact. I adore Tem. I was handler/escort at DragonCon when the Mandalorian Mercs inducted him as an honorary member and he performed a haka for Tom right there in the autograph hall in gratitude. If we get a series in the next little bit set out around the time of the Sequel Trilogy, he'd be my go-to for a more aged Boba Fett. But right here, right now, he's too old for the character as he is.

Why I'm jumping up and down to make him "Spar" or a Spar analogue -- rogue insane clone trooper who thinks he's Boba and went to work for Jabba. Why the ESB and ROTJ suits appear in parallel though the OT (they used the ROTJ suit, modified, for all the Special Edition footage for both ANH and ROTJ, so it's consistent for Tatooine Boba throughout). Tem looks damn good, his fighting form is great, I love the new costume... I just want to see this, too:

(And even that picture's a few years old, now...)
Hasn't He been involved in a secret project ?
I hope he pops up in some capacity..

Yes, the cast was really good...Thankfully!!! Oscar Isaac and Jon Boyega were hysterical, and i agree...i was hoping Finn was going to be a Jedi...They were on to something(from Storm trooper to Jedi Knight) would have been interesting but would've, could've, should've.

Yup. One of the things I'm irked with with LFL clinging to the "trilogy model" for the ST. It hamstrung them on the front and back ends, both. The story absolutely isn't over where we left it. I don't like Rey burying Luke and Leia's sabers. Finn had already used the good old Anakin hilt. It would've been cool to see him not just a Jedi (or whatever came out of Rey's journey and insights), but maybe something like this:

...Maybe even as a forerunner to the Imperial Knights in Legacy. So much potential we'll probably never see due to how bungled the ST was, how toxic a lot of the social-media attention was, and how badly burned Daisy and John were by the whole experience. :(

agreed...and it wasn't even Luke's saber...Where was ole' Greenie? such a weird choice to bury them (Anakins and Leia's both individually constructed by themselves but leave out the one Luke constructed as a Jedi himself)

THAT, TOO! Arg. So many layers of wasted potential. Hm. Artoo was there when Ben brought the house down on Luke. That was the last time we saw the 'saber Luke built. I wonder if he threw it away there and left that planet/location... I wonder if Artoo has it in him again, a la ROTJ, and just no one's bothered to ask...

Right? That's because after finding the good in his father and never giving up hope as a jedi knight, he fell in deep depression as a jedi master because his nephew was a bad apple and decided to run away with his tale between his legs and cut off the only people left that cared about him to seclude himself as a hermit on an island wishing to die(being facetious)

or how about this...right after kylo and Rey break the graflex in half, Luke(well, his projection), shows up on Crait with it in his hand and Kylo just conveniently forget about the fact that he broke it and the last time he saw Luke, Luke had his green lightsaber hovering over him...but when Kylo saw Finn in the force awakens with the graflex, he immediately identifies it as "thats my lightsaber". I mean, i've never produced or written a movie but how does one miss these details that are so obvious to all? What a shame

Would have been a great homage if at some point Artoo had Greenie pop out of him again in Luke's hand to "physically face" Kylo. I could have stomached Luke being defeated in an Obi-wan fashion face to face more than the projection(not saying i would have gone that route either but it's still better than what we got)...ultimately, we have no clue what happened to Obi-wans, Darth Vaders or Lukes lightsabers but let's make sure we bury the broken patched up Graflex from Anakin/Rey and Leia's that we only have known about in a flashback scene told by force ghost Luke...sound silly and ridiculous? that's because it is.

I’ve been avoiding spoilers, but is it me or does every day a new trailer come out on YouTube?

I’ve stopped watching the trailers after the last big one was released

But these damn YouTubers keep thumbnailing the new scenes, kind of wish they would stop showing us more

It’s right around the corner

Agreed...Like do they really even need a trailer? Just give us the date that it premiers because we all know about the show anyways and save yourselves time, effort and money cutting a trailer. The ending scene in Mando is excitement enough to draw us in.

i will tell you i wasn't much excited for this.. but seeing it around the corner i can now say i am

It's because we are Star Wars lifers like Luke Skywalker who always says to ourselves, "I know there is still good left in him". But i just really like Temuera Morrison and the time period post ROTJ because we've been deprived of that era for so many years...I just am praying the story lines are going to be great and i have more confidence after Mandalorian that the right people are on top of it. Morrison and Wen will be electric together...we hope.

I've watched a couple more since the big trailer, and you're not missing much. They're only using footage from a portion of the first episode it seems, a lot of it is just recycled with a different sound bite over top. Also, a few days ago Robert Rodriguez had this to say:

“We can’t use the second half of the first episode because it gives so much away.”

I just wonder, what can it really give away? Are there going to be some significant revelations in this? I'm guessing they'll introduce Omega from The Bad Batch at some point although I'd be just fine if they left all that alone.

I’m scared at the YouTube thumb nails maybe it’s fake? But I’ve seen him now in like a nasa space suit, a few new aliens.. and him back in the sand people cloths

The “NASA suit” looks to be the original grey jumpsuit post-Sarlaac.

Tatooine black robe segment is pre Mando return when he reclaims Slave 1.
