I remember reading that on the Eccleston/Tennant box, the bare wood had been slightly burned first to raise the wood grain, then it was painted. May account for the black trace in it.

I think they painted it blue and then did a wash of black paint to sink into the burnt out wood grain.

Here's the photos of the burnt TARDIS work.

My color research was the paint was washes of color, not even the same color all the time and it evolved over time.

I have detailed photos of the Eccleston TARDIS and the color is all over the place. Much more random than I think anybody would want to do on purpose. See this photo for some of the different blues.

Its definitely supposed to be blue more than Teal..but they had to do so much touch up. They even had their own mix made up.

Thanks for all the input. I will work on a few more samples. I have three different shades of blue and each can be altered to many different shades with washes.

More samples today...
The number of combinations I could make is staggering, so instead of burning myself out by beating this to death, what you see below sums up my options.

Some of these were done with a 3-color layer process, but my two favorites were done with a 2-layer color process.

I've already decided on the wash formula (all samples were washed with it), the wash is a blackened blue color.

Man, they're all beautiful, but #6 and #9 have my vote.

I've been silently following this thread for a while and just have to say this is such an incredible build. It makes me want my own TARDIS. Can't wait to see more updates.

I'm torn between 8 and 9.
Ultimately, the deciding vote goes to my business partner who's been helping to finance this build...I am hoping to have a decision made this coming Sunday.

It's very hard to tell online...I mean most look so similar.

3 looks good on my phone but in person it's going to vary, not to mention computer to computer.

Even the real prop we t through various stages if colour so which ever you guys decide I am sure will be great!

Your plans for the Tardis are very nice. I'm interested in building a Tardis myself but have no idea how to measure for the individual parts. I have seen plans showing the front, sides, top, etc,etc with measurements but how do you measure for indivual parts from those? Do your plans include measurements of individual parts like the base and sides and doors, etc, etc? If so, I'd love to see them.

They all look good, though 1 2 and 5 are all too dark, I'm torn between 3 and 8, but that could be the differing grain on each piece, as that has made all the difference on matt smith's box (since they switched to HD, and rebuilt the box with that in mind)

We are not in a position to openly share our plans online.
They were completely hand-drafted from the ground up using the general width and height as our starting point.
The plans are far more than simple dimensions, they are detailed architectural drawings that show how the entire structure and individual components are actually built and assembled.
Even if we could post them online, you'd have to know how to read architectural drawings to understand the information presented.

Just an FYI, the final base color choice ended up being "Cosmic Blue" from Lowes. As if we had any other choice lol.
