The Blue Box - The TARDIS has landed!

Re: Re: The Blue Box

Hey Jimmy,

What's this thing in the photo below? Looks interesting.

That's an uninteresting cart.

Re: The Blue Box

Started base coating today.
I must admit, I'm a little sad this color will be toned darker with the glaze and washes - it really looks quite gorgeous as-is.

Re: The Blue Box

More base coating.
I have very limited time to do this, so I'm doing as much as I can.

When the TARDIS is done you'll have all the time you need.

It is a beautiful box, will you do all the moving?
Would hate to see your work dinged up due to poor handling like that Jurassic Park Jeep.

Re: The Blue Box

Moving this thing around is a two person job at minimum.
We've already worked out a plan for exactly how it gets loaded and unloaded from the truck, as well as protection of the 17 pieces during transport.
Just moving this to locations is a job.

Re: The Blue Box

Sounds like your next job will be to either build a wheeled carry case for it or build a storage rack to allow for it to be moved.

Re: The Blue Box

We do have a cart to help move the base, but all the other parts are light enough to be carried by one or two people.

Re: The Blue Box

Having done it with mine several times, moving it gets old pretty quickly.

It is a handful in a pickup truck for sure.

When Qmx bought mine I had two show crates built to transport it. Even loading in and out of them was a workout.

Only two crates?
We figured if we ever had to ship one of these to someone, there would have to be three or four very large crates.
Just the cost in lumber and packing foam for the crates would be hundreds of dollars if not more, not to mention actual shipping cost.
Sadly, if anyone wanted one if these bad enough, they'd have to pick it up.

I think a lot of people really don't grasp just how big this really is until they see it.
In the show, we seldom get a full shot of the Tardis with someone standing next to it for scale, it's mostly tight shots that cut off either the top or bottom, or sometimes a mid-shot.
Last year I had a few people wanting this shipped to them and were concerned about shipping cost - well, YOU try shipping an object that's over ten feet tall and comprised of large, heavy pieces and tell me I'm not crazy lol.

Seriously though, this has been a fun adventure and a lot of kudos to those who have helped us behind the scenes.

Re: The Blue Box

Yes.

Long one with layers of sides, doors, posts, window light boxes, electronics package, lantern and tool bag.

Square one with massive LED light power supply, top and base in layers.

All secured for safe transport. Works great.

There really is no other way to ship something like this, I wish I could buy you a beer just for making such a massive effort!

Re: The Blue Box

Base coating continues.
Just need to do the doors, posts and sign boxes.

Below you will see I began applying the toning glaze to the base.
