The Black Hole and TRON Legacy

I was watching TRON Legacy and around 2 min 9 sec into the film where they show the Lightcycle toys there is a toy of BOB from The Black Hole on the shelf behind the Lightcycles.

Make me wonder if there will be a remake or sequal to The Black Hole.

I wouldnt mind a remake as long as it is a good sci fi flick about black holes, without the lame heaven/hell crap. Even as I kid I was what???? I got gyped!!!!

I could also do without Vincent having ESP - A Robot with ESP?!?!? C'mon. I'm sure the cuteness of Vincent will be gone and Maximillion will look more like a Transformer - which sucks. I loved their design.

True Story: I went to see Black Hole in Houston when it came out with my best friend at the time Danny. Dan and I ended up sitting behind these black kids who were criticizing every moment of the film. One got up to go to the bathroom and while he was gone they introduced Old Bob - when he got back he asked the other one "What did I miss?" His buddy says "That old piece of **** just say he from Houston" The other lets out a huff and says "Must be from the south side". Don't know why- I always thought it was funny.

I read a quote from the director who said he wants to have more hard science in it than the original and given how much we've learned about black holes since then it should make it more interesting. It'll probably be 2001 meets a few remnants of the original movie. Sadly they'll probably get Shia lablows in it.

I always liked that part of the film... It left an impression on me seeing it as a kid on HBO in the early 80's. For all its flaws, I think the Black Hole is a truly unique film. The major items I would remove is the contradictory, upbeat, hero theme music with most of the scenes that go with it, and the shooting gallery scene.

The premise of the film is fantastic... ghost ship on the edge of a black hole in the middle of nowhere. If they remake it, I hope they leave in the science meets philosophy aspect.

My feeling years later is it was sort of a homage to sci fi past, almost a fifties retro feel.
Secluded mad scientist and killer robots and all.

Anyways, with all the crazy string theory stuff these days, they could certainly cook up some sufficiently mind blowing scenarios.

Hah! Just yesterday we watched the movie, and I thought exactly the same!
Or does anyone know if there was any kind of logic behind including this in the movie? In context with the zombies that Reinhardt created it seemed logical that Vincent was kind of a cyborg, too, which would have been really creepy.

Informative read, but don´t want to derail this thread anymore. Looks like more love for TBH than for Tron ;)

It´s more of a classic horror story, I´d say.

Travelers in uncharted territory, in a stormy night, come across an abandonded castle which they enter for shelter. The host turns out to be more than meets the eye and they need to escape before meeting their doom.

Agreed. That must be why I like it so much. I own a lot of Hammer Horror movies that have the exact same premise.
