The Big Lebowski Costume Thread

While it might not be SA, The Dude wearing one sandal repaired with duct tape would be soooo Dudish :cool, and you make a really awesome Dude:thumbsup
:cheers Go for it!
Yeeaaahhhh...the dog got hold of the other one last night, so now I have a matched pair of useless jelly sandals. I hung onto them so I'd know which size I wear...er, wore...just in case I got the urge to order another pair; at least he didn't eat that part of 'em.

BTW, these new smilies SUCK!!!

I wish I could say that; I had to order mine from the U.K.. Last week our dog ate one of 'em, so I don't think I'll be dressing as The Dude for Halloween this year. :unsure
I live in Australia, the place I bought from they cost $35 with free shipping nation-wide, if you do live down under, try here if not then you know...don't.

Looking for a pair of Otomix MF100s in Size 13 US. They're the last piece of the puzzle for my Dude costume.

If anyone has any information please PM me.

Hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for all of the great information on this thread! I wanted to chime in as I've been putting together my own Dude costume for Dragon*Con 2013.

I'm going as the version of Mr. Lebowski from the beginning of the film, when he's buying the half & half from Ralph's. One of the props that I have never seen available for purchase is an screen-accurate half & half container so I set out to make my own. I bought a standard carton from Publix and spray painted it purple (Valspar Sumptuous Purple to be exact). The color is a bit too dark, in the film it's more pink but I'm gonna let that slide for now.

I printed this out on some adhesive-backed paper and then just stuck it to the sides of the carton. I thought about doing some stencils and or decals but I think this is the best solutions with the tools I have available.

For anyone who is interested I put together a little 'kit' containing the PSD files I used to make my carton. I had to source the font (Memphis TTF) and rebuild the graphic from scratch. I have no idea what the hell the "guy" on the side of the container is supposed to be doing - I can't make it out from the screen caps but I did the best I could given the lack of imagery outside of the film itself.

Lebowski Half & Half Carton PSD

I hope somebody finds this useful!

Also, before I started putting this costume together I knew I was going to need to custom-dye some fabric. I discovered that you can create some pretty good custom colors on RIT's website. So, based on this image of the screen-worn outfit:

I put together the following color palette:

And Here are the results:

Plaid Shorts (Old Navy)

RIB Brand Cotton Robe (eBay)

Champion Sport V-Neck (Target)

What's going on, man? The Dude, sitting here, after having a beverage...Uhhh, I guess my royal name would be Dave and what-not, but man, I prefer The Dude, so that's whatcha call me or His Dudeness or Duder or El Duderino, if you don't care for the whole brevity thing. I'm presently assembling a few full Dude ensembles and I'm even considering hunting down the correct Walkman and pager. So I'll be posting pics of my progress, as soon as I go save the girl, man.

Here's what I got so far, man:
*Pendleton cardigan
*Dude baseball shirt
*purple v-neck shirt
*white v-neck tees and a set of headphones
*temporary Dude pants from Goodwill (Perry Ellis $5 not bad) until I get a real pair of Dude pants.
More to come, dude, and it'll be far out.

20131211_191933-1.jpgThese arrived in the mail today. They are not the exact same as shown in the movie, but close enough for me. Plus, they're pretty decent shades anyway, especially for the roughly $10 they cost me during a great sale. I ordered them online from Sunglass Warehouse dot com. Model #1915. SW OVERSIZED CELEBRITY STYLE (black frame)

YKK ring zipper pull arrived today. After some wrenching (and unfortunately a little bit of soldering), I finally managed to replace the straight CMZ pull, which was standard on this particular sweater.

Thanks, man. I began to wonder where everybody went. I almost stood up and pulled an "AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO". Heheh, I guess everybody else are just tumbling tumbleweeds.

Mark it eight Dude. :cool

The thing about the members here is, if you appear to know what you're doing most of 'em will watch your progress silently, or maybe make a comment here or there. Start putting the pieces together and show your work in progress, or show your completed costume and/or props and you'll likely get more comments. But make a mistake, or use an incorrect item without acknowledging your awareness that it's incorrect, and you'll get more comments than you want. :lol

Medina Sod bowling shirt arrived today. Authentic Dude pants, and pair of jellies, and a Ralphs card are on the way. I'll post a few images once I have a few complete outfits. Anyone have a handy link for ordering jelly shoes? I couldn't find the Otomix shoes, but they actually do carry $35 Rex Kwon Do pants from Napoleon Dynamite.
