Companion to The 4K Thread...?

ALMOST pulled the trigger on an Atmos-capable amp this season, but ultimately declined.

When I built my media room, I started with a Yamaha 6.1 amp, with the rear channels mounted in the ceiling. Mistake. Never liked it.

Then I upgraded to a Yamaha 7.2 Aventage unit (RX-A1000)...
Then I re-positioned the surround back speakers (still ceiling, and I have four since sold in pairs only)...
Then I replaced the surrounds (left and right, not "back") with wall-mounted speakers, leaving two ceiling speakers inert...
Then (now) I replaced the surround back ceiling speakers with two more matching wall-mounted speakers, leaving all four ceiling speakers inert

So...

When the time comes to upgrade the amp to an Atmos capable amp, I have speakers ready to go. Would love an 11.2 speaker array, but in the Yamaha Aventage series, that's about $1,500 give or take. A 9.2 amp comes under $1,000.

Anyone on board here have Atmos yet...?

How do you like it?

my movie set up at this moment.

Denon AVR-X2300W
selfbuild pair of visaton TOPAS front.
selfbuild visaton centre
visaton CLOU as rear speakers.

no need for a subwoofer :p

I have an onkyo tx-nr646 which decodes Atmos and DTS-X....

.i've had a 7.1 speaker set up for years and basically don't want to do a dedicated Atmos speaker setup, as most movies are in the 7.1....

Saying that....Atmos still sometimes has more fluid surround effects....

I haven't heard anything in DTS X yet, and don't want to overspend on a movie i'm not bothered about just to hear it.

Do you recommend the Onkyo?

Just got a 4k BR player and to get the best sound and 4k picture i have to route through my reciever then to the TV. My current receiver won't pass the 4k as it's circa 2009 :)
