If anyone is still looking for the mechanism on the top right of Peter's camera, we may be out of luck. I may be wrong (I hope for us all that I am,) but I believe it was something that Peter custom made for trying to take a picture in a certain part of the movie. (Don't wanna give anything away for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.) But if no one has figured it out yet, I'd say this is the best bet, as he did something similar for the lock on his door.
