Hey everyone,
This is my first thread and I'm just a kid so go easy on me okay . These are replica lenses from the amazing spider-man 2, shaped with clay and painted with black gloss finish. These lenses are also domed which I did by simply taking the egg shaped packaging from an Easter egg then filling it with metal mesh here are some photos uploadfromtaptalk1407533350835.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407533365786.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407533390709.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407533401486.jpg

I originally made a pair of lens frames with a PS2 games case (as they're shiny) but later used these as a template and using some clay and I put the lens frame flat on the clay and cut around it with a knife so I then had a clay lens frame which I then smoothed out with water and it looked all ugly but. I wasn't going for the looks I was giving it a smooth shape first. I let it dry on my spidey mask face shell which gave it the shape. Next, I sanded and coated it in a layer of pva glue. The air-drying clay was paper-like so it absorbed the glue and hardened itself and dried a lot smoother. I painted it with black acrylic then when it dried another layer of glue. Finally I sprayed it gloss black and that was it for the frames!

Should of put this in the marvel section, all us spidey fans would of love to see it.
But they look fantastic man, well done.
Where did you get the lenses/frames from? Did you make them or buy them?

I made em I originally had it in marvel props and whatever but I accidentally messed up the thread and remade it.

After some abuse, the lenses eventually cracked. If you are going to try this, get the proper magnets! If the lenses are too heavy, they will fall off and unfortunately crack. They may survive a few falls but if you're fighting dudes with octopus arms like I was, then maybe not so much...

Just make a new thread over in the marvel section, and delete this thread or all the post in it.

Thread moved to Marvel Costumes and Props. You can use this thread for updates on your build. Carry on! :)

So anyways sorry for the inconvenience guys let's get started. Let's talk more about the sanding uploadfromtaptalk1407578598825.jpg I pretty much just used a coarse wet and dry paper I'm not sure of the grit and then I started sanding the lens interior. Then on the main lens frame which I rounded then i moved into the exterior which was time consuming cos I had to be careful to not break anything and to keep everything the same widthuploadfromtaptalk1407578779854.jpguploadfromtaptalk1407578779854.jpg you also may notice if you use the clay I used which is from a brand called "has" or "was" (I think) then you may see its got a papery sort of texture to it which can make your lens lumpy when it's spray painted so I just glued allover that (do not use hot glue) Use white elmers or PVA!
