the absolute BEST Star Trek tunics ?

It's impossible to judge even from those photographs.

Swatches must be mailed out. It is the only way. :sleep

i was just courious as to what everyone preferred... the darker (more orange) gold, or the lighter ?(more beige) velour...

i guess it breaks down to personal preference, and what the tailor has in stock... (unless the buyer is supplying the fabric)

phase pistol ----

do you have any screen caps that COULD show kirk in an avacado colored regular tunic? (not wrap around)

thx
dave

If you're asking me, have I run across, in the process of screen grabbing, any images that tend to suggest the tunic COULD have been green ("avocado"), I would have to say no. My grabs off of the DVDs always seem to show the shirts as that washed-out mustard color.

Now if you're asking me, can an image be PUSHED so that the shirt DOES look green, sure it can. You can play with color values in Photoshop and make the shirt whatever color you want it to be.

The only image I've run across that shows Shatner wearing what could be called a "green" shirt, is this publicity photo (below). However note that the photo has a bluish ("cool") cast that could be making the shirt look more green than it really is.

I can tweak even this photo tho to return the shirt to its usual mustardy color. Spock looks a tad yellower now too, which ought to be correct (his makeup had a subtle yellowish cast to it).

thanks karl... you pretty much hit my question on the head... and from the little knowledge i've gained in the last few months this last command tunic you posted -- i'm guessing -- is a very early used one, as the braids on the wrist are very close together... (?)

some of the custom tunic makers are offering avacado velour "command" tunics, and from the pictures i've seen this is very interesting to me, as i prefer (for now) the velour over the double knit....

looking through all your screen caps, and some other threads i didn't see an avacado colored tunic, but did see the green wrap around...

thanks for the pictures ....

*my refit Ent. - A will be in my grubby little hands by this time next week .. )

i have 3 paid for and am waiting on the 4th to be finished... i'm going to HOPE that i'll have all 4 by the end of this month for my "review"

Thats incredible. How the heck are you getting it done so fast..?? I am sure some of the sources are ones we have heard take so long.

I was looking at some early first season pics to really show how squished together the braid was early on. I'm glad they relaxed the spacing later on, 'cause I really don't care for the tight look.

From Charlie X...

From the Corbomite Manuver...Not only is the braid really close together, but they used a TON of the dashes early on. I'm sure they used fewer as time went on because it saved time.

Corb3.jpg

It also looks to me like Scotty's braid is fatter than Spock's, but it could be a trick of the eye because Spock is farther away.

Corb5.jpg

This shows how sloppy (even for close up shots.) they were on some of the stitch jobs...

RattyBraid.jpg

You can also see how the braid was already looking pretty ratty and poorly trimmed even early on in the series.

This is another good look at the "fat" braid.

ThickBraid.jpg

The Roddenberry/Katarra braid look exactly like this to me, but I wonder if this early "fat" braid could have been the rumored "Ten Commandments" leftovers and they later bagan making their own when the supply ran out. That would explain why we really didn't see the fat braid again after the first couple episodes...

no fair, you didn't reproportion your pics and made them look even more squished together. ;)

Funny, I actually prefer the closer spacing. To each his own braid. :)

Here's our shirt fabric, after custom dyeing, with insignia.

star-trek_fabric_gold_sample.jpg

The color is a custom mix we came up with. Looks like a nice warm gold in warm lighting, yet seems to take on that uncanny greenish tinge in cool lighting.

Yep I am a tight-braid man myself. :D

Looking good GM. :thumbsup

Hey if you look carefully at this pic, it seems like they sewed one of the "dashes" over top of one of the main braids. (I lack the vocabulary to describe this properly :lol )

On the complete braid that's closer to the end of the sleeve. Looks like an extra diamond shape on top of it. Maybe to hide where the ends are.

It might also be a trick of the light. If you follow the same strip of braid up to the left in the picture, every time the pattern of the braid repeats, the downward swirl appears to be darker than the braid around it. You can see this in the other unbroken strip of braid, too.

I also lack the vocabulary to describe this. :p

Yeah we need to invent words to describe the braid better. :lol

OK I'll step up:

/–/–/–/–/–/ COMMANDER STRIPE

– – – – – – DASHES

/–/–/–/–/–/ LIEUTENANT STRIPE

How's that? :p

GeneralMayhem,

Have you considered doing The Cage tunics?

Also, I stumbled on a website not long ago that offered insignia patches that matched the ones on the Cage and WNMHGB tunics; My 6-year old erased my bookmarks- does anyone know what site that was?
