Zipper. Where's the zipper???
If it's where I THINK it is I must have one.

If you have the Tunic on it is on the left hand side.

heyyyyyyyyy GeneralMayhem

from your last set of pictures it looks as if on your command tunic you're using 5 dashes?

The Captain's braid from the supplier comes in 4 rows of braid, and 10 dashes, so that's what I used.

And yes, the zipper is on the left shoulder in that pic.

How did you do the Collar GM?

Zip up all the way or clasps?

The zip goes up past, but is hidden under the collar, then closed with two sets of hooks and eyes.

Ok I'll have to wait a bit for mine but that looks RAD.

So...that's also a really sharp looking insignia patch. The borders are not overly thin, the star is nice and thick. Is it your's or are you using an available patch? Also, if you did design and make it/have it made...could you also do one of these (God, I'm gonna' get kicked right out the thread for this :confused )

We're using an existing patch that's widely available. We also have our own embroidery machine, but there's no way I'm going to fake another manufacturer's tag. Please don't ask me again.

General,
:( First I’m terribly embarrassed and mortified that anyone would think that I meant to counterfit anything at all. I was referring to the actual shirt as I have been searching for something to recreate the “feel” of that 1975 shirt. I should have been less coy (by just posting an image of the tag and thinking you might get my gist, and just asked if the shirt, an accurate patch and a similar tag could be created) and more concise about what I meant. Also, as for the tag, I am far too anal retentive and borderline obsessive compulsive (as most of us are on this board) to put a recreated Donmoor patch on anything other that an actual Donmoor shirt, which would again be pointless as none of us could fit in one today (unless any of us are in fact 6 years old :rolleyes ). Again, I’m sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks again for creating a wonderful tunic for us all. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ll sulk off to the corner to continue beating myself up for offending anybody and quietly start saving up for a tunic and the MR Enterprise. Damn. I need a raise… :(

John

p.s. this is closer to what I might have suggested for a tagÂ…sorry for itÂ’s crudeness. I just whipped it up.

AshGL1914, don't be too hard on yourself. It was a misunderstanding. I certainly understood what you meant by your post as I'm sure many others did. Don't sweat it.

Sorry, I thought you were serious.

I remember the first time I saw someone's reproduction of one of these shirts. I must have been about 13. My middle school was doing a play, a Trek parody called "Star Trip". The play was written by the school science teacher (who remained my friend for many years), and featured somewhat accurate costumes made by the grandmother of the lead actor. At the time I made an attempt to convince the guy to have her make one for me, but I couldn't distract him from the girl he was hitting on long enough to get his attention.

Some time later, I came across the patterns in the Starfleet Technical manual, and made my mother take me to every fabric store in town until I had found a nice cotton velour to fit the bill. My mother, who had worked as a seamstress for many years, taught me how to use her single stitch, barely electric Singer sewing machine (a hand-me-down from her mother), and I made my first costume at the ripe old age of 15.

My first tunic wasn't perfect, but there was something visceral about holding it in my hands, being able to actually wear it and look like I belonged to the enterprise crew. It was like "being there".

I was just watching Balance of Terror and I noticed a scene where the zipper is clearly visible so I took a screenshot...

Not very pretty to look at, but a great shot to show where the zipper is. Lots of viewers never realize that a zipper exists on the TOS tunic at all. Thanks for posting that cap. :thumbsup

And General: Love your anecdote about the first tunic you ever made. Seems as if that visceral thrill evolved into an obsession... or should I say profession? Lucky for all of us. :) Very cool.
