the absolute BEST Star Trek tunics ?

That's right Wolf. :D

I love those very early, obscure renditions of the Enterprise. Bama's version looks like GUNMETAL... :lol

bama.jpg

There was another period of "reimagining" the Enterprise prior to "Star Trek the Motion Picture". Artists like Ralph McQuarrie and Ken Adams took a stab at it. A fav of mine is this bizarre Enterprise from an early preview poster painted by John Berkey.

TMPposter.jpg

The ship itself is kind of lopsided and strange, but what I like here is the fine surface detail... the large what-appear-to-be glass blisters, either for weapons, sensors, or external observation I suppose...

Berkey has a very abstract style, and he has little interest in these type of sci-fi subjects.. his preview poster for Star Wars famously depicted multiple Milllennium Falcons swooping around during the Death Star battle. :lol

I wish these covers were available in litho format, 'cause I'd have them all.  :)

That would be awesome. :D

Actually you know the Bama promotional image from the cover of the Blish book, was available as a POSTER from Lincoln Enterprises in the '70s - I have one myself. I guess those were originally printed by NBC in the '60s or something.

Makes me feel like a kid again, propped up only a couple of feet from the screen, glued to every move the crew made, waiting for each little morality play to unfold...

OK back to costumes. Here are a couple shirts I picked up along the way.. worth a mention.

kt_kirkshirts.jpg

The "orange" shirt is a very bright pumpkin color... I don't know if it's licensed or fanmade. It doesn't have a tag. Possibly made from the "official" sewing pattern. It's pretty well constructed, and even has the gores on the side like the real thing, and a zipper that goes as far as the shoulder. Very thin material tho and a pity about the color.

The other shirt is one that was sold by the offical Star Trek fan club for awhile. They also had Spock shirts and probably Scotty ones but I don't remember. The material is a VERY shiny velour, way too shiny in fact.

kt_shinyshirt.jpg

The emblem on this one is very regularized and sharp, but not "accurate". Instead of gold leatherette it's a patterned gold fabric, and it's sewn right into the material of the costume (not separate and removable).

The shiny shirt has no zipper.

kt_shinyshirt_tag.jpg

The orange shirt has better spacing on the braid but neither has "accurate" braid.

The shiny material is a little like the shirt worn by the character "Finnegan" in "Shore Leave" (presumaby a Starfleet Academy cadet uniform). Lacks the vertical pattern tho.

"Ah, Jimmy me boy... ye never could take me...

SL-finnegan2.jpg

Also some very EARLY first season shirts, like this one worn by McCoy in "Corbomite Maneuver" (the first episode filmed after the pilots) have a shinier material also. Note the wrinkles lower on the torso.

CorbMan-shinyvelour106.jpg

Spock is similarly shiny in that one. Collars have never been higher. :D

Anyway speaking of Trek nostalgia... don't get me started on how many times I tried to build THIS monstrous thing... never did look right. :rolleyes

Looks like the one I made for myself years ago. I wore it so much I wore it out.

Does anyone know why Adam got out of the business? I've wanted one of his first season green wraps with the rank insignia on the collar for a long time. Apparently he was able to source the original fabric for them as well.

He stopped making Tunics for him. Left him with some outstanding orders from what I remember too.

Adam was the best and his customer service was the best bar none.

I was one of his happy customers many times.. :lol

Like you, I wanted to commission a tunic from Adam, but waited too long. :cry

I believe this is the smiley you seek.

Thanks for repeating the answers to my questions. That's too bad about the Adam/Jose falling out. But surely Adam retains the knowledge, right? There are other tailors too. Does Adam post here? Does anybody have patterns for the season one green wrap and know what the right material is?

GB

Adam posts here.

Maybe he will see this thread and chime in.

As for the material for the wrap-around it comes and goes from what I remember.

I think he bought some Material the last time it was around though.

From what I recall the first year wrap was wool.

Scanned from the Star Trek Giant Poster Book, Issue 17, April 1978. Yes, I've been collecting Star Trek costume references THAT long.

lol

The first season wraparound tunic was a dull green wool, with rank braid at the collar, and division insignia at the waist. It's a fairly simple pattern. Not complicated, just requires proper sizing to fit who it's made for.

That really is the key to all of the TOS Tunics.

They have to be fitted.

The Pattern for the first Season wrap-around was available at ASAP taken directly from the Original.

I don't think they are available anymore though.

I forgot his Measurements but Shat's reminded me of a girlie-man. :lol

Well, Bill's not a particularly big guy, but none of the original series actors were really.

That first season wrap tunic was always one of my favorites though. Because it was wool and had a lining it seemed more "constructed" and less casual than his second season tunic. It's too bad they didn't make a third season version too, just to stay consistant.

:)
